Bjork blasts ‘cruel colonizer’ Trump amid his wild Greenland takeover threat

Icelandic singer Bjork has issued a blistering statement branding President Donald Trump a ‘cruel coloniser’ after he threatened once again to seize Greenland.

Bjork sent her well wishes to the people of Greenland ‘in their fight for independence’ on Monday.

In an X post, the singer, 60, called the prospect of seeing Greenland fall under the control of another ‘cruel coloniser’ one ‘too brutal to even imagine.’

‘i wish all greenlanders blessing in their fight for independence icelanders are extremely relieved that they managed to break from the danish in 1944 , we didn´t loose our language ( my children would be speaking danish now ) and i burst with sympathy for greenlanders , repeatedly , especially like when the case came up about the forced contraception , where 4500 girls as young as 12 got IUD without their knowledge between 1966 and 1970,’ she posted onto the social platform.

‘4500 girls as young as 12 were fitted …. they are my age and younger … childless …. and still today the danish are treating greenlanders like they are second class humans.

‘removing children from their parents in 2025 ! colonialism has repeatedly given me horror chills up my back , and the chance that my fellow greenlanders might go from one cruel coloniser to another is too brutal to even imagine.’

She then shared a quote in Icelandic which translates ‘from the ashes into the fire.’

‘úr öskunni í eldinn’ , like we say in icelandic dear greenlanders declare independence !!!! sympathetic wishes from your neighbours warmthness,’ she said, signing off with her name.

The post was accompanied by a photo of the map of Greenland with it’s flag illustrated on top.

Talks of Greenland possibly being next in line for a US takeover come after Saturday’s dramatic capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, as well as the US strike in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital.

Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in taking control of Greenland – Denmark’s semi-autonomous territory and a NATO ally.

Over the weekend, Trump told The Atlantic that ‘we absolutely need Greenland – we need it for defence.’

He added that the Danish territory – a member of Nato – was ‘surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships’.

The interview came after the wife of a Trump official tweeted an image of Greenland coloured like the US flag and the word ‘Soon’.

Katie Miller, the wife of the President’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted the provocative image hours after the US had invaded Venezuela.

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen said in a statement: ‘The Kingdom of Denmark — and thus Greenland — is part of NATO and is therefore covered by the alliance’s security guarantee.

‘We already have a defense agreement between the Kingdom and the United States today, which gives the United States wide access to Greenland.

‘I would therefore strongly urge the United States to stop the threats against a historically close ally and against another country and another people who have said very clearly that they are not for sale.’

Mr Trump said the raid that led to Maduro’s abduction was an update to the ‘Monroe Doctrine’.

The declaration, made in 1823 by US president James Monroe, said the America would not meddle in European affairs in exchange for European powers staying out of the New World. Mr Trump announced a new ‘Don-roe Doctrine’ era.

Despite international condemnation to the rendition, Mr Trump suggested that other nations, including Colombia, Cuba and Mexico, were on notice.

‘I think Cuba is going to be something we’ll end up talking about, because Cuba is a failing nation right now, and we want to help the people,’ he said at a news conference over the weekend.

‘That system has not been a very good one for Cuba.’

Former president Joe Biden removed Cuba from a list of state sponsors of terrorism last year, but Mr Trump reinstated the designation within his first days in office and reapplied sanctions.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the son of Cuban refugees who fled during the nation’s communist revolution, added to warnings that its leaders should be worried.

‘Suffice it to say, Cuba is a disaster,’ he said. ‘It’s run by incompetent, senile men. If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I’d be concerned.’

Cuba released its own statement, warning: ‘All nations of the region must remain alert, as the threat hangs over all.’

Mr Trump also spoke out against Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro, saying, ‘He has cocaine mills. He has factories where he makes cocaine.’ He said the drug was being sent to the US, and warned that Mr Petro should ‘watch his ass’.

Mr Petro condemned the attack on Venezuela as an aggression against all of South America and announced the mobilisation of troops along the border to halt a possible flood of refugees

Meanwhile, during a phone interview with Fox News, Mr Trump said that ‘something will have to be done about Mexico’.

‘American dominance in the Western hemisphere will never be questioned again,’ he said.
