Winehouse predominantly based the Back To Black album on her tumultuous relationship with on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil, who she had broken up with prior to its release in October 2006.
He had left then then rising star to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend, but in the end their short-lived separation helped inspired her to create a batch of songs that explore themes of guilt, grief, infidelity, heartbreak and trauma in a relationship.
Catching on with a wide variety of people, Back To Black sent her celebrity star soaring on the heels of five hit songs: Rehab, You Know I’m No Good, Back To Black, Tears Dry On Their Own and Love Is A Losing Game.

After British police reopened the probe in her death in December 2012, a second inquest confirmed that Winehouse died of an accidental alcohol overdose.
In an interview with the singer’s brother, Alex Winehouse revealed his belief that his sister’s eating disorder, and the consequential physical weakness that came with it, was the primary cause of her death.
‘She suffered from bulimia very badly. That’s not, like, a revelation – you knew just by looking at her,’ Rolling Stone reported in 2013. ‘She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia… I think that it left her weaker and more susceptible. Had she not had an eating disorder, she would have been physically stronger.’
