Viewers have slammed Big Brother Australia for airing a brutal challenge that left one contestant weeping on Monday night’s episode.
During the episode, Michael was asked to rate his fellow housemates from most intelligent to least intelligent.
Big Brother promised that if he ranked them in the same order as the Australian public ranked them, the housemates would earn $50 towards their weekly shopping budget.
The awkward challenge culminated in aspiring MMA fighter Colin being placed last.
‘I feel like you can’t really, like, gauge that [someone’s intelligence] in a couple of days’, Colin told Big Brother when asked whether he believed he was in fact the least intelligent of the group.

While Colin initially appeared to take the brutal ranking in good humour, he later separated from the group and broke down in tears – initially hiding in the bathroom before visiting the diary room.
‘I’ve just heard that sort of stuff my whole life. Like, ‘You’re too loud’, or ‘You’re stupid”. It hurts a little bit to know that, um, if I’m the best at something it’s that I’m the best at being stupid,’ he wept.
The gut-wrenching footage sparked an outroar online, with fans slamming the franchise for allowing the 21-year-old to be reduced to such a vulnerable state.
‘This breaks my heart. Ranking people on perceived intelligence is cruel and can extremely damaging to a person self worth,’ one user commented.
‘I cried watching Colin cry… that was so unfair and unkind,’ someone else commented, as a third bristled: ‘Really, BB? A category like that? You’ve outdone yourself. You’ve got this, Colin. Don’t doubt yourself for a second… we believe in you.
Yet another wrote: ‘That is so wrong and so bad that they have people vote to put others down… mental health evolves around this sort of thing and now he is hurt. Shame on you Big Brother for doing that.’
Elsewhere, one user penned a lengthy essay on Facebook about how far Big Brother had fallen by airing such a controversial challenge.
‘Of all the categories Big Brother could have chosen, intelligence felt like the most cruel,’ they wrote, in part.

‘Intelligence cuts dep, especially for someone who admitted he’d heard similar comments before,’ they later added.
The user said that while they have always loved the Big Brother franchise, ‘tonight felt different’.
‘It did not feel like entertainment. It felt like humiliation and Colin did not deserve that.’
