Better lay low! Inside Snoop Dogg’s surprisingly modest m property empire and why rapper shuns Hollywood mansions

He’s one of the most famous rappers on the planet – a West Coast icon known for weed, wealth and a larger-than-life persona.

With an estimated net worth of $160 million, Snoop Dogg has spent decades turning his fame into a sprawling business empire that includes his production company, penning a cookbook – and more recently, sponsoring the Arizona Bowl and headlining the NFL Christmas Day Halftime show.

But when it comes to real estate, Snoop Dogg lives like the anti-celebrity, the Daily Mail can reveal.

While his hip-hop peers, such as Dr Dre, 50 Cent, and Drake, are known to splurge on luxury mansions around Beverly Hills, Malibu, and other exclusive celebrity enclaves, Snoop, 54, has quietly built a modest property empire consisting of nine homes worth a combined $8 million.

That’s less than the price of most Hollywood mega-mansions.

In fact, the entire portfolio owned by the rapper – born Calvin Broadus Jr – costs a fraction of what many A-listers spend on a single house.

Compare that to other mega-rich celebs such as pal Jay Z and wife Beyonce.

The Hollywood power couple smashed all national property records, shelling out $200 million for a Malibu mansion in 2023, featuring eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms over 7,749 sq feet of floor space, and designed by ‘celebritect’ Tadao Ando.

With each square foot costing $25,809, the custom-made lounge, spanning over 500 square feet, would amount to a minimum $12.9 million.

The whole of Snoop’s portfolio, on the other hand, cost a combined $7,877,550.

And unlike many celebs, he hasn’t tried to hide his assets through business managers and trust funds.

The homes are actually all held directly in his own name and that of his wife of 28 years, Shante.

The only company the couple has used for purchasing is Bosslady Realty LLC, a nod to his wife, who became the official manager of the rapper’s business empire four years ago, and has set up her own production firm Boss Lady Entertainment.

But property records show the couple began snapping up more real estate a few years after the success of his 1993 debut album. They purchased this two-bed apartment for $95,000 in Rancho Cucamonga, California in December 2000

The couple bought their main residence for $720,000 in June 1998 – exactly a year after they married – in which they still live in today.

Situated in Diamond Bar, eastern Los Angeles – some 50 miles from Beverly Hills – the four-bed, four-bath mansion is situated in a gated community.

At the time, Snoop had already gotten his huge break with his hit 1993 debut album Doggystyle, but liquid cash may have still been tight that the couple financed it with a $477,830 mortgage from the lender Skyline Financial Corp, according to records seen by the Daily Mail.

Since then, they’ve been snatching up properties within a five-mile radius of their home.

They bought two in nearby Rancho Cucamonga, in San Bernardino County, over the next two years.

One is a three-bedroom family home on a private estate for $182,500, and another is a two-bed condo purchased for just $95,000, close to Ontario Airport.

They added a further two to their east LA portfolio – a three-bed pad in Eastvale for $350,000 in January 2012 and another four-bed property in Ontario for $717,500 in May 2021.

But perhaps their most intriguing purchase is a property they snapped up outside of California 20 years ago, which they still own today.

It’s a three-bedroom house on a one-acre lot in a secluded area of Douglasville, Georgia – 20 miles from Atlanta – costing $188,500.

It’s not known why they chose that location or what the property is used for.

According to property records, Snoop and Shante have only edged closer to the coast, in west LA, for more high-end purchases, in recent years.

The first was in January 2019, when they bought a a two-bed penthouse in Marina Del Rey, for $2,599,000 – leveraged with a $1,949,250 mortgage.

While it’s hardly a flashy portfolio, Snoop Dogg’s understated property purchases appear to prove to be sound investments, buying him security and privacy in an industry obsessed with excess.

The rap star, born in Long Beach, California, and raised largely by his mother,  didn’t grow up around wealth or luxury.

Despite decades of success, that early experience may be behind a real estate strategy that’s rooted more in caution and control than celebrity excess.

Snoop married his high school girlfriend, Shante Taylor, on June 14, 1997, by which point they already had two children together – sons Cordé and Cordell.

After they had married, Snoop and Shante then welcomed their daughter Cori in 1999.

However, their relationship has not always been plain sailing, and the rapper filed for divorce in May 2004.

But the couple never went through with the divorce and in January 2008, the high school sweethearts renewed their vows.

Shante is not just Snoop’s wife but also his manager and an entrepreneur, having founded Boss Lady Entertainment, a corporation that handles labels and recording studios.

Shante became Snoop’s official manager in 2021, taking over all parts of his enterprises.
