Beloved Triple J star appears to confirm he has quit after six years with the station in shock social media post

Veteran Australian comedian Dave Woodhead has all but confirmed that 2026 will be his final year with Triple J after six years with the youth radio network.

The beloved radio presenter broke the news gently in a social media post on Sunday, when he shared a photo of a checklist of items he planned to work through this year.

Some of the items listed included ‘make the 2026 Hottest 100 the biggest ever’, ‘host a telethon’, and ‘meet Delta Goodrem’.

However, it was his final point which raised eyebrows, as it said ‘Find a new job’, suggesting he will not be returning for 2027.

‘Damn it feels good to be back with you tomorrow from 12-3 on Triple J lunch. Big show. Big announcement. Biiiiig 2026,’ Dave wrote next to the post.

Shocked listeners quickly took to Reddit to discuss the bombshell announcement.

‘At least he gave a year’s notice. For me, always enjoyable, fun sense of humour, combined with a little bit of chaos mixed in, and is pretty engaged with the music IMO,’ one person wrote.

‘Six years is a good innings. I hope he has a killer final year and wish him all the best,’ a second added.

‘Shame. Definitely one of the better presenters,’ another chimed in.

The veteran comedian has developed a reputation for engaging listeners with his cheeky banter and amusing song choices.

It comes after former Triple J star Bryce Mills shared a heartbreaking life update in December, a year after he walked away from the national broadcaster.

Bryce stepped down from his Triple J breakfast role in June 2024, citing burnout and mental health issues.

Taking to Instagram for the first time in seven months, Bryce revealed he had been dealing with some challenging personal issues.

The expansive post began positively, with Bryce revealing that symptoms associated with burnout had faded since leaving Triple J.

‘It’s been a year since I quit my safe and financially predictable radio job – a decision that was always going to be a leap of faith,’ he wrote.

‘After a few months I felt some of my creative senses re-emerging, and some of the weird physical symptoms I’d gotten used to start to fade away (goodbye random eye twitching and vertigo).’

Bryce went on to explain that he had started to find his creative groove again, as he resumed work on an unfinished documentary from 2024.

‘So, I finished the doco and posted it on YouTube in May, excited to feel a bit of creative dopamine and work out the next step of this freelance situation,’ he continued.
