Beloved sitcom star looks nearly unrecognizable as he joins Michael C. Hall on set of Dexter reboot

A beloved sitcom star looked nearly unrecognizable as he was spotted filming scenes for the anticipated sequel Dexter: Resurrection in New York City on Tuesday.

How I Met Your Mother actor Neil Patrick Harris, 51, sported a brown wig as he joined leading star Michael C. Hall, 54, while on set in Brooklyn.

Harris has taken on the role of Lowell in the upcoming Paramount+ for Showtime series – although further details of his character have yet to be revealed, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Production for the reboot – which is set to premiere later this year in the summer – officially kicked off a few months earlier in January.

Along with the light brown wig, Neil kept it casual while sporting a plain blue shirt as well as a pair of dark blue jeans.

He layered the ensemble with a black puffer jacket to stay warm in the chilly weather and slipped into a pair of black shoes.

Harris was spotted strolling next to Hall who wore a pair of black cargo pants as well as a gray shirt and black hoodie.

The two stars held a lighthearted conversation as they prepared to film a scene for the show.

Earlier this week, it was also announced that Krysten Ritter – who is known for Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Breaking Bad – has also been cast to portray the role of Mia.

Other stars that will appear in Dexter: Resurrection include Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, David Zayas, Jack Alcott and James Remar.

Earlier this week on Monday, the Kill Bill actress was seen getting into her character of Charley – Leon Prater’s head of security.

She donned a pair of black, high-waisted trousers as well as a green turtleneck and a gun holster. The star additionally sported a short blonde wig and shades while shooting scenes at a park in NYC.

Last year in July, it was announced that Michael C. Hall would once again reprise his character of Dexter Morgan in the upcoming reboot.

He notably played the role in the original series Dexter from 2006 through 2013. He then portrayed the character in Dexter: New Blood (2021-2022).

Most recently, Hall played the inner voice of young Dexter – portrayed by Patrick Gibson – in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which finished airing last month in February.

The finale garnered a whopping 2.68 million global viewers, which broke a record for Showtime to become the most streamed global original series for the network in 10 years, per THR.

The original series also gained more traction. In regards to the show’s resurgence, Michael told Variety during San Diego Comic-Con last year: ‘It’s unbelievable.’

He added, ‘There’s something about this world, something about this character that captivates people…’

The star further explained, ‘I think there’s many different ways this show appeals to people as there are people who watch it.

‘But I think maybe a biding thing is, in a world in which we feel a sense of being out of control people like spending time with a character who’s taking his own, unique control of his little corner of the world.’

The actor added, ‘I think we all have our shadow side that we contend with and Dexter’s is obviously a little weightier than most.

‘People enjoy spending time with someone who is doing his best to take responsibility for that side in his sort of outside-the-box way and morally grey way.’

‘People, I think, relish the invitation to identify with someone who is contending with this much darkness, and maybe contending with it in a way that is arguably admirable – even though he’s doing what he’s doing,’ Hall explained to the outlet.

The original series garnered a number of accolades during its time on the air, such as winning four Emmys and two Golden Globe awards.

The Six Feet Under star also had the chance to reflect on returning to the franchise once again while talking to Entertainment Weekly.

He added, ‘I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back and have all the imaginative blanks filled in is going to be great.’

However, Jennifer Carpenter – who played Dexter’s adoptive sister in the franchise – revealed in January that she would not be returning to the upcoming reboot.

The actress – who recently starred in the second season of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 – expressed to People, ‘I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it.’

‘I hope that they’re having a wonderful time,’ she added in reference to both the cast and crew. ‘And I’m so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.’
