Beloved Australian children’s entertainer and actor Marty Morton has died at age 82 following a long battle with cancer.
Morton was born in England in 1941 and moved to Australia at a young age, where he began his career as a stage performer and ventriloquist.
The veteran performer was known for his hilarious stage presence and enthusiasm, and was a regular on the popular ’70s kids variety show The Super Flying Fun Show as well as stints on Hey Hey it’s Saturday.
He often performed alongside his mascot puppet Emu, and entertained fans across the country with his hilarious and energetic routines.
Morton’s son Terry confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post.
‘It is with great sadness to let you know that my father, Marty passed away on Friday,’ he began.
‘He almost made it to 83. Love him and will miss him big time.’
Morton was a regular on Australian TV for years, appearing in many popular shows including Division 4, The Young Doctors, Spyforce, All Saints, and The Restless Years.

His 50-year career in showbiz saw him entertain both children and adults alike, and he also appeared alongside many renowned performers, including Hugo Weaving and Georgie Parker.
He also appeared alongside Claudia Karvan and Susie Porter in the TV series Puberty Blues, in 2012.
Despite his declining health in later years, he was the consummate professional and continued to entertain fans at the hospital he was being treated at.
Morton’s contributions to showbusiness saw him win an Australian Entertainment Mo Award three times for Versatile Variety Act of the Year, in 1982, 1983 and 1986.
He is survived by his sons Terry and Anthony.
