Beloved American folk duo The Brother Brothers have cancelled the remaining dates of their Australian tour, after one of their members suffered a near-fatal accident.

The indie-pop band, comprising of identical twinsย David and Adam Moss, recently shared a heartbreaking statement to social media confirming the tour cancellation.

‘We’re sorry to announce we need to cancel the remaining dates here in Australia. What we can tell you at this point is that David passed out in the water and nearly drowned,’ they began.ย

The siblings, who have been performing since 2016, were booked to play at theย Port Fairy Folk Festival in regional Victoria, as well as theย Yackandandah Music Festival and the Blue Mountains Music Festival across March.

They added their focus was now on David’s health and were quick to praise the top-notch Australian health care system.

‘We’ll update you when we know more, which will hopefully be quite soon… once he’s transferred from Coffs Harbour to Newcastle,’ they wrote.

‘I’ll also note the Australian health care system is a shining beacon to be admired and striven toward. We can’t thank them enough for all their loving care and excellence in their fields so far.’ย

Many of the bands heartbroken fans quickly took to the comment section to offer their well wishes.

‘Yikes! Thank goodness youโ€™re on the mend D! That sounds incredibly scary,’ one person wrote.

‘Sending love your way! So scary!’ a second user added and a third chipped in: ‘Much love to you guys. Glad he’s doing better.’ย

The cancellation is the latest blow for the Australian live music scene,ย coming a short time after Splendour in the Grass was canned for 2025.

Organisers officially confirmed in January that the beloved Byron Bay music festival will not go ahead for the second year in a row.

‘Hey gang, sorry itโ€™s been so quiet, but we had a little holidayโ€ฆfinally,’ a statement published on the festival’s social media channels began.

‘The rest of the festival team have still been busy cooking up some awesome new things for music lovers in Australia, but Splendour needs a little more time to recharge. We won’t be back this year.’

The 2024 Splendour festival, which was set to feature the likes of Kylie Minogue, G Flip, Tash Sultana, and Fontaines D.C., was axed less than a week after tickets went on sale.

Organisers cited ‘unexpected events’ as the reason behind the last minute cancellation.

There is no guarantee that the festival is slated to return in 2026.

However, organisers asked music fans to ‘think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right.’

The statement ended on a more hopeful note, with Splendour organisers saying there are ‘lots of other huge events on the horizon.’

‘So keep an ear to the ground in the coming months โ€“ we canโ€™t wait to share what weโ€™ve been working on!’ they added.

In a separate statement to Rolling Stone, ticketing and touring company Live Nation said the festivals team ‘has our full support to bring Splendour in the Grass back when they feel itโ€™s right.’

Live music fans and promoters had hoped the tent pole festival would return this year.
