BBC star Owain Wyn Evans has revealed he is taking time off work to recover after undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder.
The Radio 2 presenter, 41, took to his Instagram on Tuesday to issue a health update and to voice his gratitude for the ‘amazing’ NHS that took care of him.
The Homes Under the Hammer star explained that he’d needed the operation after discovering polyps inside his gallbladder, and would be ‘off work for a bit recovering’.
In his post, Owain shared a selfie of himself in his hospital gown in bed on the ward, and a second of him recuperating at home with his rescue cat Franny by his side.
In the accompanying caption, he explained he was being looked after by his husband Arran Rees and issued a heartfelt tribute to the NHS.
He penned: ‘Our NHS is amazing ❤️ Turns out I had some dodgy polyps in the old gallbladder, so out it came. All fine now. I can’t thank the incredible staff at West Ward 6 and surgical team at Llandough Hospital enough.

‘I’m off work for a bit recovering – being cared for by Nurse Franny and Dr Arran (who despite not being a medical doctor is doing a good job).
‘We’re lucky to have the NHS, it’s helped my family so much over the years with ongoing cancer care for my father and MS for my mother, as well as quite literally saving Arran’s life when he was a child. Thank goodness we have it xx’.
Owain’s post was soon flooded with well-wishes from his followers and famous friends, including many of his fellow radio stars.
Zoe Ball commented: ‘heal well darling chap x’ while Gaby Roslin added: ‘Sending huge love and get well soon lovely ❤️’.
DJ Sara Cox joked: ‘Only you could rock a hospital gown off one shoulder, asymmetrical is huge this autumn xxx sending you love for a speedy recovery x’.
And fellow Welshman Gethin Jones echoed: ‘Lovely off the shoulder look..’ while Gabby Logan wrote: ‘Send you love and a speedy recovery x’.
Pop star Pixie Lott also commented, writing: ‘ahh sending lots of love owain ❤️❤️❤️’ while Russell T. Davies added: ‘Oh get well! Much love ❤️’.
Strictly stars Dianne Buswell, Tasha Ghouri, Colin Jackson and Balvinder Sopal also shared supportive messages sending their love.

Owain, who took over presenting Radio 2’s Early Breakfast Show from Vanessa Feltz in 2023, has been open about his health in the past.
He previously revealed he suffers from tinnitus and ‘some hearing loss’, so uses in-ear monitors to help his hearing.
He began his broadcasting career at the age of 18, as presenter of a Welsh-language news programme for children, before going on to study meteorology with Open University.
After a seven-year stint as a weatherman on BBC Wales, he became the lead weather presenter for BBC North West Tonight and in 2020 became a reporter on The One Show.
A keen musician, Owain found wider fame during lockdown when a video of him drumming along to the BBC News theme tune went viral.
He had also caught the attention of thousands in 2019 when he referenced dozens of Ru Paul’s Drag Race stars during his on-air forecast in an effort to celebrate International Drag Day.

He told viewers: ‘The time has come for me to forecast for my life. I’m going to spill the tea alright and tell you that some of these clouds today are going to be throwing some serious shade, okay?’
‘So this weather front brought us some rain yesterday which is great news for our Nina Flowers in the garden, but I hope you didn’t get Courtney Act in any downpours. So that weather front has indeed, sashayed away.’
And in 2021, he raised more than £3 million for Children in Need with a 24-hour drumming marathon in aid of Children In Need.
During the fundraiser, the weatherman was joined by 50 other drummers as he recreated his viral rendition of the BBC News theme song, including McFly’s Harry Judd and percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie.
He completed his marathon with a performance of Britney Spears’ hit Baby One More Time, The weatherman is said to be a big fan of the popstar.
Speaking to the BBC after the marathon, Owain admitted: ‘I’m feeling overwhelmed, people have been so generous.
‘Surprisingly my hands have held up OK but we’ve had some problems with my arms because they’ve been moving for 24 hours.
‘Thank you so much to everyone who has put your hands in your pocket and donated, BBC Children In Need helps causes which are really close to my heart.’
The presenter revealed that drumming helped him as he grew up as a ‘young gay man’ in Ammanford, Wales.
