He rose to national prominence when he joined the legendary Sydney vocal group The Delltones in 1982.

Mayers joined the band 20 years into their run after their previous singer left, as a temporary stand-in, but his magnetic stage charisma and powerful voice soon helped him make the role permanent.

He became their lead singer after Sep Martin stepped down, and helped carry the group’s vocal-harmony and rock’n’roll legacy into later decades.

The upbeat performer recorded several albums with the band including 1983’s Bop Till You Drop, which reached the top 20 in Australia.

The Delltones were one of Australia’s most popular groups from the ’60s onwards, and frequently wowed TV audiences through their appearances on a host of popular shows, including Bandstand and In Melbourne Tonight.

With The Delltones, Mayers performed across Australia – and internationally – revisiting classic surf-rock and wowing thousands of fans in the process.

Upon leaving the group in 2011, he continued as a solo artist, backed by his own band, delighting club audiences with both his hits and reimagined Delltones classics.
