He became an overnight sensation after posing for popular underwear brand aussieBum.
And Matty Wilson is still the poster boy for the Australian men’s swimwear and underwear manufacturer more than 10 years after his ripped physique was first plastered all around billboards and buses around the country.
He has since transitioned into acting and has a surprise new business he co-founded last year.
The 36-year-old became the face of the brand after winning Tradie of the Year in 2010 and modelling as the Aussie ‘Diet Coke Hunk’.
Matty said his launch to stardom began when he was working as a tradie and his friend mentioned there was a competition for an underwear ad – which eventually lead to his successful career as a soap star and model.
After his mother took photos of him and submitted them he quickly ended up as a model for the aussieBum underwear brand.
‘The next day we got a call up saying “Are you free next Monday?.” So, we went into the aussieBum headquarters and seven days after that we opened up the Sunday newspaper, where there was a full spread of me,’ he told Nine Honey in 2022.
After gaining success as a model, he joined Aussie soap Neighbours as Aaron Brennan in 2015, making history when he wed David Tanaka (played by actor Takaya Honda) in the first same-sex marriage on Australian TV.

Their characters tied the knot on the show in 2018, soon after gay marriage was legalised in Australia in 2017.
Magda Szubanski, an outspoken advocate for the gay, lesbian and transgender community, played the celebrant.
‘That was the most iconic moment of my career,’ he said.
‘It was an incredibly important story for our characters and it was amplified even more when the Australian government allowed same-sex marriages to happened.
‘I think it happened the day before or the day after the episode went to air. That was purely a coincidence.’
Matty has since co-founded cold tub and ice bath company The Dope, which sell recovery ice baths, saunas and leg compression boots.
The brand’s popular products are designed for purpose and are more affordable than most cold tubs, without the lengthy shipping delays.
