Aussie Swimmer Emily Seebohm spills on Olympic village antics

Emily Seebohm has dished on what really happens in the Olympic village as she discussed missing out on the 2024 Paris Games.

The Australian swimmer, 32, has revealed who the biggest ‘root rats’ are at the Olympics as she dished on the raunchy antics that often occur in the village.

Her remarks come after Paris’ ‘anti-sex beds’ caused a stir, after the International Olympic Committee cracked down on intimacy at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Though the ban was lifted this year, athletes have been given single beds made from cardboard in what was rumoured to be an effort to discourage sexual activities, which was denied by organisers.

Discussing the rumoured raunchy antics between athletes, Seebohm joked that the Olympic village is ‘like Tinder’ as she revealed who the raunchiest sportspeople are.

‘No joke it’s probably like Tinder in there,’ she quipped while speaking about the 2024 Games on KIIS 97.3’s Robin & Kip on Wednesday morning.

When asked who the biggest ‘root rats’ are, Seebohm went on: ‘Oh, God. Um, that’s really hard. If you’re competing later on, you know, you only have a small window to enjoy that.

‘Whereas if you’re competing day one or day two and that’s it, it’s all over. So, you sort of can get on it for a bit longer. I don’t know.’

Hosts Robin Bailey and Kip Wightman then joked that the swimmers are ‘clearly’ the raunchiest because the finals have already taken place at the 2024 Games.

In a huge win, Kaylee McKeown took home gold in the women’s 100m backstroke gold while Australia also got a bronze medal in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

Seebohm insisted she has never got involved with the racy antics in the village, because she has been in a long-term relationship with Ryan Gallagher.

The four-time Olympian also discussed her dismay at missing out on the 2024 Paris Olympics after she fell short in the trials, just months after giving birth to her son Sampson in September.

She was left devastated when she failed to qualify in the women’s backstroke final at Australia’s Paris 2024 trials.

Seebohm, who made her Olympic debut at 16 at the Beijing 2008 Games, jokingly said she would give up her partner Ryan if it meant she could return to the Olympics.

When asked if she would have given anything to be there, she replied: ‘Oh, absolutely. I probably wouldn’t give my son up, but maybe my partner [Ryan Gallagher].’

But she insisted she still enjoyed watching McKeown’s incredible win on screen, adding: ‘It was just unreal to see it. Kaylee did a fantastic job to hold back the Americans and take the win for the Aussies.’

Seebohmn also took to X – formerly known as Twitter – this week to share her dismay over missing out on her chance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

‘I would love to be in Paris right now. Either swimming myself, watching or commentating but the best thing is I’m ok that I’m not there too,’ she confessed.

Eight months after giving birth, Seebohm fell short of becoming the first ever Aussie swimmer to be picked for five Olympic Games, failing to qualify in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

Seebohm has won three gold, three silver and one bronze medal in her four Olympics in a huge achievement.

Before the trials, Seebohm said she was making her Olympic comeback to inspire other mothers and her son Sampson as she discussed regaining her dreams.

‘Mums have reached out to me saying how inspiring this is,’ she shared. ‘When I was pregnant, I felt like I lost the athlete I was.

‘This is me trying to regain that and prove to other women that it’s possible to have kids and achieve your dreams too.’

‘I’m doing this for myself and to prove to Sampson that if you have a dream, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it,’ she went on.

‘A lot of people doubted my comeback. I breastfed for eight months, went to training, pumped, went to the gym, and made it to Sampson’s lessons. It was hard, but doable.’

Robin & Kip can be heard from 5.30am to 9am on KIIS 97.3 in Brisbane, or on the iHeartRadio App.
