Aussie Star Recalls Shocking Racist Act at Airport

An Australian reality star has recounted a disgusting act that he witnessed at the airport.

Ben Polson, the inaugural winner of the now-defunct Australian Ninja Warrior, took to Instagram on Friday to share the ordeal with his 38,000 followers.

He revealed that the incident occurred as he was disembarking an early morning flight.

‘I cannot believe some people,’ he began the clip.

‘Yesterday I get off this flight, it’s about 6am and everyone’s tired and this guy walks out of the bathroom.’

Ben then revealed that the man unceremoniously spat on a wall as the passengers were making their way through the terminal.

‘He’s a shorter guy, smaller frame with a two piece Nike tracksuit. He walks in front of me and a few other people and he turns his head and he spits on the wall,’ Ben said.

‘Not just a little one. I see that bad boy dripping down the wall and I’m like: ‘Woah”.

Shocked by the disgusting act, Ben added that he then wrestled with whether to confront the offender.

‘Nobody says anything, nobody does anything. He’s weaving through people towards the front. I’m kind of thinking: ‘OK, that was obviously not cool,’ but do I say something? Do I do something?” he said.

He added that his conscience ‘got the better’ of him and he decided to challenge the man.

‘I tap him on the shoulder, he turns his head… and I said to him: ‘dude can you not spit on the wall. Like, that’s just totally not acceptable.”

Things went from bad to worse when the man revealed that the target of his spray was, in fact an Indigenous artwork hanging on the wall.

‘As I say this he kind of cuts me off and he says: ‘It’s not a bloody wall, it’s an Aboriginal painting. This is my effing country, c-word, I’ll do whatever I want’,’ Ben said.

That makes it so much worse. The fact that he’s consciously decided to spit on an Aboriginal painting to show disrespect is just crazy.

Ben added that he continued to chastise the man over the disgusting act before the culprit eventually walked off to avoid his admonitions.Ā Ā

‘So I respond with: ‘Dude, that is super disrespectful. You cannot be doing that, it’s just not okay,” he said.

‘As I’m saying this, he’s mumbling stuff – a lot of C words – and he starts to move faster ahead of me as he’s walking off I yell out to him, ‘Mate you’re an absolute disgrace.”

Not wanting to see the confrontation escalate, Ben let the man continue on his path, but not before informing staff of the incident.Ā

‘We go through immigration and we essentially let the officers know when I see them what he’s done and they go and have a word with him,’ he said.

Ben rounded out the post saying that while shocked that he was the only one to speak up, he was not surprised by the silence.Ā

‘In this situation, it is a shame that nobody decided to speak up or say anything but I will say it is actually very difficult to speak up and say something,’ he said.

‘I’m a bigger guy – I was much bigger than him. Regardless of that, when I went to actually speak to him I found it very difficult to articulate myself I found it very difficult to calm my heart rate.Ā

‘In the moment it’s really not as easy as you probably think.’

The post was met with a flurry of comments from followers, with many praising Ben for his forthright stance.

‘Good on you – I don’t know if I’d have the confidence to confront him,’ one fan offered.

Another chimed in with a similar: ‘Good on ya mate, wish I could say I’d do the same thing, but in the moment would probably look around and hope someone else would do it instead.’
