Aussie actress Yael Stone reunites with Orange Is The New Black co-star Uzo Aduba – after turning her back on Hollywood to work on climate action

Australian actress Yael Stone has reunited with her Orange is the New Black co-star Uzo Aduba.

Stone, 39, shared a photo to social media in which she was tenderly embraced by her close friend and former co-star, who she acted alongside in the US comedy-drama from 2014 – 2019.

She was all smiles in the heartfelt photo in which she was seen posing up a storm alongside her close friend as they reunited recently.

The pair colour-coordinated in similar looking black and white stripped outfits as they laughed it up during their heartfelt reunion.

The All Saints star was also seen being introducted to Aduba’s one-year-old daughter Adaiba Lee as she gently played with the bub.

The reunion looked to be taking place in Sydney, where Aduba was recently spotted enjoying her New Years, after Yael swore off Hollywood several years ago.

The Sydney-born actress captioned the photo with some reflective words: ‘My dear friend @uzoaduba – how I have missed you.

See the little hands clinging to our bodies, outside the frame of this photo is real life. How we have grown, changed, we are both mothers now and the things we loved in each other have deepened. The fruit of a long friendship.

‘For your beautiful baby to reach out to me for a cuddle was the very best gift of the first day of this new year.’

The Aussie actress, who is best known for her role as Lorna Morello on the Netflix hit comedy series Orange Is The New Black, gave up her Hollywood career in 2019 to return to Australia and ‘work on climate action’.

In response to the 2019-2020 bushfire season in Australia, the actress gave up her United States green card to return Down Under permanently in order to fight a ‘climate war.’

On Australian Story last year, the 39-year-old said the turning point occurred years after meeting her partner Jack Manning Bancroft and realising the pair shared similar ambitions.

‘I’m sure there are people who look at my decisions and think they’re a little unhinged in terms of totally self-sabotaging my career,’ she shared with the ABC.

‘I think a lot of people be like, “This lady is cuckoo.” But you have to make the choices you can live with.’

In 2020, Stone said she came to the decision to give up her life in the United States ‘after a long, considered process’.

‘We’ve come to understand it’s unethical for us to set up a life in two countries, knowing what we know,’ Stone said in a video posted to social media at the time, describing the travel as ‘environmentally unjust’.

‘The carbon emissions alone from that flying – unethical. It’s not right,’ said Stone in her statement.

‘So I will be going through the process of giving up my green card, and saying goodbye to a life in America. I’m going to be here in Australia doing the the work I can to make a difference here. Because the time is now.’

Having worked extensively in Australian theatre, Stone won two Sydney Theatre Awards before moving to New York in 2011.

At the 2008 Sydney Theatre Awards, she won the awards for Best Newcomer and Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Kid – She also starred in Australian dramas All Saints and Spirited.

The energetic performer is a vocal advocate for several causes, including women’s rights and environmentalism.

The actress and her partner Manning Bancroft have been together after reconnecting in 2016.

They share daughters Pemau Stone Bancroft, six, and Marli, two.
