Ariana Grande addressed speculation she is campaigning to play Audrey Hepburn in a possible biopic of the late star, on Tuesday.
While attending the National Board of Review’s 2025 gala, the 31-year-old star told Access Hollywood that the Breakfast At Tiffany’s star is once of her ‘references’ for stylistic inspiration.
Responding to rumors channeled the icon that evening, she said, ‘Oh my goodness, why is everyone asking me this? You’re insane! You’re insane, you’re insane, you’re insane. You’re insane. I love you.’
The Wicked star added: ‘I’ve always loved old-Hollywood glamour — like, Marilyn [Monroe] and Audrey have always been my references. I’ve always gravitated toward ’50s, ’60s silhouettes, and retro vintage.
‘I can’t even think of a time when that wasn’t my vision board. But it’s been more fun to have more places to really do that. My stylist, Mimi [Cuttrell], and I have been leaning all the way.’
Later in the evening, the girlfriend of Ethan Slater hinted to Entertainment Tonight that she would be open to playing Hepburn — who passed away in 1993 — in a biopic.

‘That would have to be done so well and so perfectly … I don’t know,’ she said. When a reporter told the star she would do well in the role, Grande responded: ‘That’s very kind.’
Rumors first sparked that the multihyphenate could be campaigning for the role after channeling the Roman Holiday siren at the 82nd annual Golden Globes on Sunday, modeling a Givenchy 1966 archive dress.
In a release about the look, a Givenchy archivist confirmed the Moonlight singer’s gown was a homage to Hepburn.
The Archivist shared: ‘The dress is pale-yellow silk with a hand-beaded bodice … from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era … one of the most important unions between a designer and muse.’
Grande previously channeled the star while modeling her wedding dress back in 2021 when announcing she tied the knot with her now ex-husband Dalton Gomez.
In early 2022, it was revealed that Rooney Mara was cast as the late Oscar-winning actress in a biopic that was supposed to be directed by Luca Guadagnino — which has now been delayed.
Though the biopic’s details were kept on the low, the film was supposed to be written by Academy Award nominee Michael Mitnick.
Back in February 2024, Mara told Deadline that while progress on the project has slowed down, it was ‘not completely dead.’

The 39-year-old told the outlet, ‘Luca is no longer going to be directing it, but the project is still very much alive… I can’t say more than that right now.’
On Sunday evening, Ariana earned her first Golden Globe nod in the Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy category for her role as Glinda in Wicked, but ultimately lost the trophy to Zoe Saldaña.
Earlier on Thursday, a new photo of Grande looking ‘dangerously thin’ had emerged showing her visible ribs and prominent clavicle, further fueling concerns among fans and doctors.
The star’s worrying weight loss has been attributed to her vegan diet and potential Ozempic use.
