Apple Martin’s Music Debut Called ‘Off-Key Karaoke’ and a Sign of Nepotism

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple has been criticised for her foray into music, after performing at a surprise gig at Cannery Hall in Nashville.

After videos of Friday’s show hit social media, an influx of comments saw the nepo-baby slammed for her vocal abilities – with many insisting she had not inherited her Coldplay legend father Chris’ musical talents.

The aspiring model and singer, 21, sang alongside musical duo Jade Street ahead of her collaboration and musical debut on their song Satellite – however her vocals were likened to drunken karaoke singing and far removed from her dad’s talent.

TikTok was flooded with comments about the performance, including many notes about nepotism, reading: ‘Nepotism has killed art… This is a nepotism baby I dont support. No third gen nepos please… Aren’t we bored with nepotism yet?’

While her Instagram post featuring the video was met with praise, TikTok viewers appeared more scathing in their reviews of the performance.

Gwyneth, 53, and Chris, 48, who were married from 2003 to 2016, are parents to Apple and her brother Moses, 19, who has also set his sights on the musical world.

Chris and Coldplay have scored seven Grammy Awards and nine Brit Awards and sold more than 160 million records worldwide, while her mum has also previously shown musical prowess, singing in films Duets, Country Strong, and Infamous.

Accusations of nepotism were rife following Apple’s performance of Sattelite, which is due due for release on October 28.

On stage, the model wowed in a cropped white top, black mini, and knee-high boots – however her vocals were deemed wholly less impressive than her chic look.

TikTok critics penned: ‘Oh no, that’s really bad… That’s on inheriting Gwyneth’s audacity… Sorry but she needs to leave the singing to her dad… Oh love, guess you got her mums singing genes… Nepotism has killed art…

‘That’s unfortunate really… Oh wow!! Who told her she could sing!… This is a nepotism baby I dont support. No third gen nepos please… oh the hidden talent needs to stay hidden… Yeah. That’s not gonna happen Apple…

‘Is this a joke? I’m so confused… I was hopeful for a minute there. Maybe she’s better at acting?… Nepotism. Yikes. She’s not a singer…

‘She can’t sing. There I said it again… She’s awful… Oh honey. No. Just no. The voice is something you didn’t inherit. Aren’t we bored with nepotism yet?…

‘Yikes… What’s scary is that she still sounds like this even after she most likely has access to the most world class vocal coaches in the world…

‘Nepotism at its finest… Apple fell really far from the tree’.

Further comments on Instagram claimed she sounded like she was performing karaoke while drunk, while another likened her vocals to a famous scene in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary, when Renée Zellweger drunkenly sings.

The commenters continued: ‘I sound the same after a few drinks at karaoke… god have mercy… I’m sorry but she needs to let her dad be the singer in the family… Nepotism is wild. People with ordinary talent get the spotlight…

‘I’ve seen better singers in my town’s middle school plays… Remember the scene in Bridgette Jone’s Diary where she sang? Yea, that one… It’s so off key…

‘Everyone sounds like this after 3.2 drinks at a Karaoke bar… Maybe that should be the last time… Lord, she can’t carry a tune in a bucket… When parents aren’t honest with their kids for fear of hurting their feelings’.

In contrast, more vetted comments on her own Instagram, which was also shared by Jade Street, read: ‘Gorgeous voice!!… You sound heavenly… You sound amazing… It’s female Chris Martian now I don’t need to switch teams thank god…

‘Apple omg… It’s female Chris Martian now I don’t need to switch teams thank god… wow !… Sounds incredible! What a beautiful voice… Very Good… This is amazing you have a hauntingly beautiful voice’.

The model is studying at Vanderbilt University and told Interview magazine earlier this year that she is ‘a law, history and society major.’

However, she is dabbling in acting recreationally, telling the outlet, ‘I’m in the lovely Vanderbilt Original Cast, the esteemed cabaret theater group.

‘This semester’s show is a musical parody of Love Island called Love on an Island. It’s so fun. The songs are phenomenal.’

She said in the April interview, ‘I have a very low voice so whenever we’re doing harmonies, it’ll be like, “Alright, it’s the boys and Apple.”

‘I’m singing my absolute favorite song this semester, which I’m so excited about. I’m definitely not the best in the org, but I love it.’
