Former and star Anthony Quinlan has revealed how being sick on Celebrity due to his lack of training and boozy nights out made him transform his life and go on to be crowned Sexiest Male.

Anthony, 41, who is set to make his acting comeback later this year, made the revelation in a new interview where he discussed his career and the 'brutal' reality of being an actor.

Previously a familiar face on our screens, Anthony has been relatively absent from TV after his character Pete Barton left Emmerdale back in 2020.

The actor, who appeared on Celebrity Gladiators in 2009, told The Sun: 'It was great fun.

'But at the time, I hadn't trained for about three years. Being a young adult, I was kind of out all the time and enjoying myself, having a good time, going out drinking, socialising.

'In the video tape, they ask you, "what sort of training have you done for this?" I remember being in a pub. I was supping a pint in the pub and I lifted it up and said, "this is my training." I was completely honest.'

Former Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan, 41, has revealed how appeared on 2009 Celebrity Gladiators with NO TRAINING changed his life for the better - even though it left him being sick

Anthony (R) is best known for recently playing Pete Bardon on Emmerdale and is pictured here with his on-screen brother Ross, who was played by Michael Parr

Anthony said he did no training for the show and his lack of  fitness coupled with boozy nights out made him sick backstage at Celeb Gladiators but he's overhauled his fitness now

Celebrity Gladiators sees famous faces take on elite athletes - better known as 'the gladiators' - in the ultimate fitness battle, culminating in a seriously tough obstacle course.

Anthony admitted: 'I was actually throwing up because I was that unfit. I was sick because of the exertion that had occurred over the last show. That was like a kickstart into, "you need to get a grip now".'

Having previously trained, the star quickly realised that the level of exertion required to be on Celebrity Gladiators should not have left him so violently ill.

So he took action to turn things around and went back to the gym.

The actor quickly reaped the rewards of his efforts too and in 2010, he was nominated in the Sexiest Male category at the Inside Soap Awards.

His passion for wellness has since gone on to affect his career and as well as being an actor, he runs his own vegan supplement business, which has taken a bigger role in his life since leaving the Dales.

It is also an exciting time in the star's personal life and he recently welcomed a baby with his partner, Coronation Street's Nikki Sanderson, 42

Anthony said that despite being a well-known face, he has struggled to find acting work in recent years, but he is hoping to turn his fortunes around after getting a new agent last year.

News of Anthony's career comeback comes amid an exciting time in the star's personal life and he recently welcomed a baby with his partner, Coronation Street's Nikki Sanderson, 42
