Anthony Mackie is looking forward to starring in his own Captain America movie, but revealed he’s also experienced some disappointment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actor, 45, who was nervous to work with Harrison Ford in Captain America: Brave New World, said he was disheartened the powers that be didn’t opt for a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in which his Sam Wilson takes on the mantle and shield of the superhero.
‘The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out,’ he told the Radio Times.
‘Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness.’
Stan, 41, stars as Bucky Barnes, who has been with Marvel since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

His character was kidnapped by Hydra and held in a cryogenic freeze between missions for decades.
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mackie’s and Stan’s characters team up to fight the bad guys, including Brühl’s Baron Zemo.
The star admitted, ‘When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.’
Referring to an iconic dance scene in the Disney+ series, the action star said, ‘Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy.’
Mackie has been promoting his most recent television show, Twisted Metal, which debuted in the UK March 21st.
He stars as John Doe in the action adventure based on the 1995 PlayStation game by the same name.
The post-apocalyptic comedy features performances from Stephanie Beatriz, Will Arnett and Thomas Haden Church, with a couple of guest appearances by Anthony Mackie, Jr. as the young John Doe.
The New Orleans native is a longtime gamer and spoke about being a fan since he was a kid and grew up playing all kinds of games.

The actor took on the mantle of Captain America in the Disney+ streamer, but was not renewed. Instead the studio focused on the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World
Mackie made the comments while promoting the release of Twisted Metal in the UK
The series, based on the 1995 video game by the same name, has already received the green light for a second season on Peacock
‘One of my favorite games of all time was NBA Jam. And I think Bill Clinton was president, and there was a cheat code where you could get Bill Clinton as one of the basketball players, there were just crazy cheat codes like that.’
The star admitted Twisted Metal was a challenge for him.
‘I was not good at the game,’ he said. When he got the part, ‘I tried to play the game again and still suck at it. That used to frustrate the hell out of me,’ he said, ‘but I found the characters to be so interesting… you know, which car was the better car and the guns on the car, and all that stuff. ‘
Mackie will get to hang out with his Twisted Metal co-stars in the future. Peacock has already given the green light to a second season of the show which received a 94-percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
