Amy Poehler claps back after being called ‘poor man’s Tina Fey’: ‘F**king a**holes’

Amy Poehler has made it clear she does not ever appreciate being described as a ‘poor man’s Tina Fey.’

The comedian, 53, opened up about a moment in which she had been compared to her close friend and frequent collaborator on the debut episode of her new podcast, Good Hang.

Unsurprisingly, Fey was her guest for the first episode – which saw the longtime friends take a trip down memory lane.

During their conversation, the pair recalled attending an Harvard Hasty Pudding Theatricals event honoring Poehler as the group’s Woman of the Year in 2015.

The Parks and Recreation star explained that the event, hosted by the student theatrical society at Harvard University, consisted of ‘sniveling guys roasting me.’

‘You know what you’re getting into, and they kind of come out and roast you,’ she noted.

While cheeky jokes was something that the star was anticipating, she revealed her frustration when she was compared to her friend Fey just before she was meant to make a speech.

The former SNL star recalled: ‘I’ve gotten this more than once, and I hope this isn’t awkward for you for me to say it in front of you, but definitely people like to say, “You’re the poor man’s Tina Fey.”

‘This kid said it right before I went up… I gave him the finger, which everyone was shocked about.’

Poehler admitted she wasn’t sure if her outburst was necessarily the best reaction for the occasion, but she ultimately had no regrets.

She continued: ‘And I don’t know if it was the right… I mean, I did it, I guess, but I go, “F**k you.”

‘I was like, “You’re on a dais, Amy.” But then, f**k Harvard.’

Fey echoed her agreement with the statement before Poehler then joked: ‘I mean, those f**king assholes – but thank you for inviting me. It was a real honor.’

Elsewhere in the episode, Fey unloaded on a greedy practice of ‘rich people’ in Hollywood that she couldn’t stand.

Fey admitted that she had a ‘problem with’ wealthy stars who have a ‘side hustle,’ even though they’re financial secure enough to not bother.

‘If you already have like $200 million … I judge it,’ the 54-year-old 30 Rock star said of the legion of celebrities who have launched their own products on the side.

Fey got some surprising pushback from Poehler who urged her to ‘learn from Gen Z’ and not to ‘judge’ others for never having enough.

The conversation started after the former Parks And Recreation star urged her brunette pal to launch her own ‘hair campaign,’ or to advertise glasses, since she regularly wore stylish frames on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.

‘[I’m] always pushing you to have a glasses line. Why do you not have a glasses [line]?’ Poehler wondered aloud.

‘I have to say…’ Tina began to respond, before Poehler interrupted with ‘You hate money?’

‘I do kind of hate money,’ she former Weekend Update Anchor said.

Fey described herself as ‘terrible with money,’ though Poehler tried to convince her that wasn’t the case.

‘No, I’m not terrible. I don’t waste money,’ she relented, before clarifying that she doesn’t ‘get excited about money.’

Fey added that she doesn’t care for stars with a ‘side hustle,’ and Poehler shrunk down in front of her computer screen and joked in a perfect deadpan: ‘Yeah, you mean like a podcast or something.’

But Fey clarified that she doesn’t consider Good Hang a side hustle because it still counts as work, even if it’s not the kind of acting or comedy Poehler is best known for.

Instead, she said she was annoyed by celebrities who hock products that are outside of their expertise and don’t have any connection to their work or art.
