As youngest son Cruz posts another painful swipe on Instagram at his estranged brother Brooklyn, I’m left wondering: is there method in the Beckham family’s sadness?
Isn’t this bizarre social media frenzy and the very public ongoing battle between the Beckhams and their in-laws – Brooklyn’s wife Nicola Peltz and her uber-rich parents – serving them all rather well? Since the fallout, the entire clan has never been out of the headlines.
I’m sure Cruz is gutted by the family rift and the pain it has caused his mum and dad. But, hey! He and his family have enjoyed the spotlight for months now, much of the coverage portraying the Beckhams as the scorned, loving, family and the Peltzes as the monsters who stole away their first-born Brooklyn. You couldn’t have chosen a more sympathetic narrative if you tried.
Not since the Judgement of Solomon have we had such an epic familial battle played out in public.
And Saturday marked the latest offensive from ‘budding musician’ Cruz, who shared pointed lyrics from The Beatles 1969 song The End to his Instagram Story.
They read: ‘Love you, I love you / Love you, I love you / Love you, Iove you / Love you, Iove you’, followed by the final enigmatic line: ‘And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.’
He captioned the post: ‘The truth will unfold.’
Very cool and compelling, Cruz, if not slightly pretentious for a fledgling musician like you to reference a Lennon/McCartney classic.

Saturday marked the latest offensive in the Beckham-Peltz feud – this time from ‘budding musician’ Cruz Beckham
But then this isn’t the first time Cruz has used music to relay coded messages.
Last month, he urged his army of followers to listen to his former Spice Girl mum Victoria’s 2001 track, Every Part Of Me – by the way, a total flop – which included the lyrics, ‘I promise I’ll be here if someone ever breaks your heart’.
Also the epic lines: ‘People always their mouth’, but ‘there’s no doubt my love for you is true.’ And: ‘When I look at you I see me from my head to your toes every part of me.’ (Little wonder it was Vic’s first and last solo album.)
Was Cruz innocently celebrating his mother? Was he reflecting on the poignant lyrics? Or, was he simply trying to remind people that he’s the son of very famous parents.
Perhaps Cruz really is so torn apart by the Beckham v Peltz battle and his estrangement from his older brother that he feels the need to speak out in support of his despairing parents. But why in riddles? Could it in fact be that these cryptic posts are a proving a goldmine for his Insta hits?
After all, Cruz’s Instagram following is embarrassingly small for a Beckham, at just 2million compared to brother Brooklyn’s 16million.
And let’s not forget dad David’s got 88million followers while mum VB boasts 33million.
In other words, there is a formidable Insta fanbase that Cruz must be eagerly waiting to tap into – as his older Brooklyn has already done so shamelessly to market his Cloud23 hot sauce brand.

The Beckhams have been portrayed as the loving, scorned family and the Peltzes as the monsters who stole away their first-born Brooklyn
By my maths, that adds up to 139million people keen to hear anything about the Beckhams, to read every cough and spit of this unfolding drama.
It’s all a bit bewildering. Here we have a family claiming that they are desperately trying to smooth the waters – 5,670 nautical miles of them or ten hours in a private jet – between their Cotswolds home, and LA, where Brooklyn and his wife Nicola have just bought an £11million mansion.
And yet they keep posting obscure messages online. Why don’t they just shout down the phone at each other like normal families? If the Beckhams do ‘long for’ reconciliation, as insiders say, shouldn’t they just come clean about their grievances with each other – in private – rather than giving secret briefings to the media and attempting to land blows on Instagram?
But then is that really the point of this ugly social media spat? As Cruz hinted, perhaps ‘the truth will unfold’.
Even on Father’s Day, David posted loving pictures of himself with Brooklyn, which was widely interpreted as an ‘olive branch’ to his first child. Leaving many of us wondering why, with all of his riches, he didn’t just get on a private jet to make amends in person.
So should we believe Brooklyn, who, despite claims that he ‘snubbed’ his father’s multiple 50th birthday celebrations earlier this year, insists he texted his dad when he was in London recently for a fashion shoot with Nicola inviting him to meet up for a coffee – and that his ‘distraught’ father didn’t even reply?

Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel posted her own gushing message about his gig – but would anyone have paid attention without his cryptic story?
And perhaps it was indeed just a coincidence that amateur singer Cruz decided to post his latest cryptic message just as he was performing at a gig in London.
Pictures show him singing with two guitarists and a drummer in what looks like the local pub. It’s hardly Wembley Stadium, yet Victoria posted an adorable tribute to her son – a photo of him with his grandparents Jackie and Anthony, captioned: ‘Proud nana and papa.’
Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 29, was also in the crowd and posted her own gushing message about how proud she was of him.
Had it not been for the timing of Cruz’s Instagram post – and indeed his mum Victoria’s – would anyone have paid attention to Cruz’s little gig?
I wish Cruz well, I really do. I just wish his latest Instagram post hadn’t coincided with his London pub gig. It just feels, well, opportunistic?
Why can’t the Beckhams just fall out with the Peltzes like the rest of us do from time to time? Why can’t brothers rail against each other in private, without every move being headline news broadcasted to the world?
Perhaps that would stop people wondering whether, every time the Beckhams post on Instagram, it’s for a personal money-making agenda.
Anyway, good luck with the reconciliation Cruz and Brooklyn. Let’s hope you fare better than Harry and William have.
