Teyana Taylor said fans took a Golden Globes exchange with Julia the wrong way as she addressed backlash over the viral moment.
The singer-actress was celebrating her first-ever Golden Globe nomination Sunday night when she met Roberts – one of her longtime heroes – for the first time.
The emotional encounter went viral after Julia hugged Teyana and could be heard telling her she was ‘teeny tiny’ before joking, ‘You need to eat a sandwich.’
Addressing the moment on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Taylor explained, ‘I’ve seen people trying to get on her about that, and I was like, ‘Hold on.”
‘She told me I needed a sandwich because she couldn’t find my waist… she was like, ‘Girl, you need a sandwich.’ It was so cute,’ Teyana added.
The star made it clear Julia’s comment didn’t offend her and said the red carpet exchange was a moment she genuinely cherished.
‘It was so amazing,’ she added. ‘I just remember her parting the sea for me. She came through like Moses.’
