AFL’s Sydney Swans and their fans fight over Sydney Sweeney – as it is revealed the actress’ wedding to fiancé Jonathan Davino has been called off

The Sydney Swans have wasted no time laying claim to actress Sydney Sweeney after she reportedly called off her wedding to Jonathan Davino amid ‘major issues’ which have allegedly left their romance hanging in the balance.

The American star, 27, had the AFL team swooning in March, 2023 when she attended her first-ever game to watch the Swans take on the Hawks at the SCG.

Now, pictures of Sydney flirting with the players in their locker room have resurfaced on the Swans’ Instagram page as the team begs her to come back to Australia and visit them.

‘It’s been two years to the day since you visited @sydney_sweeney, when are you coming back?’ the caption read alongside a reel of images which saw Sydney getting cosy with some of the players.

Fans flocked to the comments to also lay their claim on the Euphoria star, demanding she return only for their favourite players.

‘Should come back for [Riley] Bice,’ one person wrote, while a fan page for the mature-age defender commented: ‘Does she miss me?’

‘I wish she could go meet Robert Hansen Jnr [of North Melbourne],’ another user said.

Someone else added taking a photo with Sydney was the ‘best moment of [Dylan] Stephens’ career’. 

Meanwhile, one revealed she was filming the rom-com Anyone But You with co-star Glen Powell ‘four doors down’ from them when she last visited Australia.

‘Her movie was filmed four doors down from us. We miss her too,’ they said alongside a laughing-crying emoji.

Comedian Sam Taunton also chimed in, saying her visit to the Sydney Swans was ‘one of the most important days in the history of this great club’.

It comes amid reports Sydney has called off her wedding to her film producer fiancé Jonathan, 41, amid ‘major issues’ which have allegedly left their romance hanging in the balance.

Sydney and Jonathan started dating in 2018 and got engaged in 2022, but for the most part kept their relationship assiduously private.

However, a source recently revealed to DailyMail.com the pair have postponed their wedding, which was planned to take place this May.

The insider explained the couple were undergoing a ‘rough patch’ and trying to ‘reassess’ whether they ought to remain together at all.

Rumours swirled about the state of their relationship, and Sydney poured fuel on the fire this week when she deleted a picture of her and Jonathan kissing from an Instagram album she posted to celebrate the new year.

Now, in the latest twist, another source has claimed Jonathan and Sydney ‘have called off the wedding’ altogether but have yet to break up, via Us Weekly.

Jonathan and Sydney have not been seen together since January, and she has purportedly been staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel since mid-February.

‘Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split. Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet,’ the source alleged.

‘They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now. They were supposed to get married this spring. The wedding is not happening, and they aren’t having further discussions about it. 

‘Sydney wanted to cancel everything and couldn’t handle the stress. A lot of their issues stem from Sydney being extremely busy with work commitments.’

Sydney has a cavalcade of projects in the pipeline, including a return to her star-making show Euphoria, on which she plays Cassie Howard.

She is slated to star in the remake of the 1960s Jane Fonda classic Barbarella, and has already filmed a biopic of pioneering 1980s boxer Christy Martin.

The actress also recently wrapped a movie called The Housemaid alongside It Ends With Us actor Brandon Sklenar, and is signed to the role of Kim Novak in Scandalous! about the Hollywood icon’s romance with Sammy Davis Jr. 

Sydney, according the insider, ‘doesn’t have a lot of downtime, and it causes tension in their relationship. Sydney is really focused on her career. Jonathan wishes they were able to spend more quality time together’.

They added: ‘Things are also always tense between them when she is promoting a movie because she has to give her full attention to the project.

‘People always speculate about their relationship and Sydney being close to her costars. It’s a tough dynamic for Jonathan.’
