Adrien Brody not only won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist at the Oscars 2025 on Sunday but he also earned the longest acceptance speech in Academy Awards history.

The 51-year-old actor – who was also slammed over a ‘disgusting’ act –  beat nominees Timothee Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Sebastian Stan and Ralph Fiennes to win his second ever Oscar in the coveted category.

He then proceeded to have the longest speech ever in the 97 year history of the Academy Awards as it clocked in at five minutes and 40 seconds in total.

The previous record was held by Greer Garson according to the Guinness World Records as hers was reportedly five minutes and 30 seconds when she won for Mrs. Miniver in 1943.

Adrien was brutally roasted on X (formally Twitter) for the length of his speech.

One user wrote: ‘adrian brody acceptance speech more like the brutal list. too many names!’

Another said: ‘adrien brody taking 1 whole minute to get on the stage, throwing his gum on the floor, and proceeding to have a 6.5 minute speech where he demands the orchestra to stop playing so he can keep yapping.’

Other X uses commented that not only was the speech long but they felt like the two-time Oscar winner didn’t really say anything of note.

A user posted a .GIF of former US presidential candidate Kamala Harris shushing with the caption: ‘adrien brody having the longest oscar speech in history but not saying anything worth remembering i have to laugh.’

Another said: ‘adrian brody nothing burger speech GET OFF THE SCREEN.’

This came as he was also slammed over a ‘disgusting’ act just before the record-breaking speech.

The star was walking up the steps to the stage he turned around, took his gum out of his mouth and threw it to girlfriend and Harvey Weinstein’s ex Georgina Chapman, 48 – much to viewers’ disgust.

Chapman was seen running up to her partner and diligently catching the gum before he made his speech.

He said: ‘Winning an award like this signifies a destination and something my character references in the film.

‘But to me, it also, beyond the pinnacle of a career, it is a chance to begin again and the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough so that the next 20 years of my life, I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful, important and relevant roles.

He thanked Chapman and the two children she shares with jailed Weinstein, saying: ‘I know it’s been a rollercoaster. Thank you for accepting me into your life’ and revealed the two youngsters call him ‘Popsie.’

Fans quickly slammed the star for the gum throw, writing: ‘adrien brody could’ve used his long speech to apologize to his partner for throwing gum at her.

Others wrote: ‘Adrien Brody THROWING his gum at Georgina Chapman while on the stairs to accept his award I honestly more shocking to me than Will Smith slapping Chris Rock.

‘arrest adrien brody for hurling his gum at his wife at the oscars.
