Singer Adriana Araujo has tragically died from a brain aneurysm at the age of 49, just six years after rising to fame during the pandemic.

The samba star collapsed at her home in on Saturday night and was rushed to hospital with a large cerebral haemorrhage.

She remained in a coma in intensive care, with doctors declaring her condition was 'extremely serious and irreversible'.

Sadly, Adriana passed away at the Odilon Behrens Metropolitan Hospital in Belo Horizonte on Monday. 

The singer is survived by her son Daniel and her husband Evaldo Araújo.

Adriana was regarded as one of the most prominent voices in Brazil's samba scene and boasted over 70,000 followers on Instagram.

The mother-of-one grew up in the favelas of Pedreira Prado Lopes and showed her passion for music from an early age.

She began by participating in free Afro dance and theatre workshops in the community and studied vocal technique, starting her career alongside her husband, as part of the Simplicidade Samba group.

She launched her solo career in 2020, quickly amassing a legion of loyal fans through her incredible voice and captivating stage presence.

Adriana's online following grew during lockdown after she began performing shows for locals from her rooftop and live-streaming them online for all to enjoy.

The inspiring songstress held the concerts as a way to raise donations to help poor families in the Primeiro de Maio and São Marcos neighbourhoods.

The following year, Adriana released her album, Minha Verdade (My Truth), which touched on powerful themes such as Black pride, ancestry, love, and motherhood.

Throughout her career, she has performed at important events in Belo Horizonte, such as Virada Cultural, Festival Sensacional, Carnaval de Rua, and Virada da Liberdade.

While she shared the stage with a number of fellow Brazilian artists and big names in samba, including Leci Brandão, Fabiana Cozza, Arlindinho and Jorge Aragão.

After her tragic death, her team released an official statement that read: 'Today we say goodbye to our beloved Adriana Araújo.

'Adriana was much more than a great voice of samba. She was a wide embrace, an easy smile, a generous heart, and a joy for life that illuminated everyone around her. 

'Samba will deeply feel her absence, but not only that. All those who ever received her affection, her attentive listening, and her warm embrace will miss her.

'Her presence will remain eternally in our hearts and also recorded on the platforms where she shared her art, allowing her voice to continue echoing and touching lives forever.

'In this moment of grief, we ask for prayers and good energy for her son Daniel and her husband Evaldo, that they may find strength and support. 

'Thank you for so much, our queen. Your brilliance is eternal. ✨'

News of her passing sparked devastation from fans and flood of condolences and tributes, with her team announcing they were holding a wake for her on Tuesday morning for everyone to say their goodbyes.

They shared: 'We have set aside a special moment for fans, friends, and family to say goodbye to our Queen, where she grew up, at PPL.

'It will be a time of unity, prayer, and tribute to this woman who touched so many lives with her voice, her embrace, and her joy of living.

'May every gesture of affection also be a thank you for everything she left us.✨'.
