Adele Roberts Faces Second Cancer Scare After Neck Lump Surgery, Two Years Post Bowel Cancer All-Clear

Adele Roberts revealed she has had another cancer scare on Instagram on Wednesday as she has surgery to remove a lump in her neck.

The radio presenter, 46, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2021 and documented her treatment on social media, which included undergoing colostomy surgery to remove a bowel tumour and having a stoma bag fitted.

After receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, nine months after being diagnosed Adele was declared cancer free, and now lives with a stoma bag, which she has named Audrey.

Now, Adele revealed she has had a second cancer scare as she showed off a scar behind her ear following having a lump removed.

Alongside the photos, she wrote: ‘THANK YOU NHS. What a week so far – it’s only Wednesday and I’ve already had a camera up my bum, an enema (that I thought would NEVER END) and some test results that I’ve been worried about since summer.

‘Thank you to everyone who’s been sending me messages recently (noticing my array of plasters & patches) I didn’t want to say as it’s something I’ve been worrying about… but at the start of summer I got a concerning lump on my neck… which wouldn’t go away and then it grew into a bit of a monster.

‘Nobody knew what it was and it wasn’t responding to treatment so I had to have it looked at by a specialist and removed.

‘With my recent health troubles and knowing you can never take anything for granted… it has been playing on my mind. Poor Kate too! She’s been so worried… so apologies if we’ve been a bit more weird than usual haha.’

Adele revealed she has been waiting since the end of August for the removal of the lump and has been trying her best in the ‘worrying time’ to remain positive.

She continued: ‘I was put on the waiting list for removal just before the Sydney Marathon… so it’s been on our minds for a while… but all that running helped me so much and gave me a way to channel my feelings, stay positive, and think of all the people we were raising money for. It turned a worrying time into a very happy time.

‘Even though I’ll have a wonky scar on my neck. I’m proud of it… and grateful. It’ll be my newest piece of body art! My newest piece of Kintsugi a Japanese term “celebrating and embracing imperfection. Treating healing as an essential part of the human experience”’

Adele revealed that her ‘lump was benign’ however, doctors revealed her endoscopy results were unclear and she will ‘need to go back soon for round two’.

She added: ‘I finally got my test results back today from the dermatology unit and the lump was benign! I’M ABSOLUTELY BUZZING! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!!

‘So back to the other end… Unfortunately my endoscopy trip this week wasn’t to be… The hospital were unable to get a clear reading due to the enema not working well enough. Even though I can’t use my bottom at the moment, food can still make its way into my colon as I have a loop ileostomy.

‘All good though… I’ll be going back soon for Round 2 a nice dose of sedation & more bumless paper shorts. Hoping there’s no new growths hiding down there and I can leave the NHS alone for a bit .

‘If you’re reading this & you’re worried about ANYTHING please speak to someone. Early detection saves lives’.

Fans rushed to the comments to send their best wishes to Adele as well as a number of famous faces including Zoe Ball and her former Dancing On Ice partner Mark Hanretty.

Other friends and fans penned: ‘Bravest, strongest woman I know; Such an amazing lady! Keep putting one foot in front of the other and be kind to yourself too; You are a powerhouse’.

It comes after Adele achieved her incredible global running challenge in April, which saw her running a mammoth six marathons in eight months across the world.

Adele decided to do the challenge in order to raise money for charities Cancer Research UK & The Attitude Magazine Foundation and awareness of bowel cancer and its symptoms.

Writing on her JustGiving page, which has amassed a whopping £12,350, she explained: ‘By doing this challenge I hope to give back to those who helped me & tirelessly help others.’

She has continued her keen love of running despite battling her severe illness and this year became the fastest woman in history to complete the world’s six major marathons in Boston, Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, New York and London with a stoma.

She completed the incredible achievement in April, with the London Marathon, finishing in an incredible three hours 36 minutes.

The day of the race, Adele reflected on her Guinness Record from 2023, where she became the fastest person to ever run the marathon with a stoma bag, and broke down in tears as she looked back on how far she’d come.

Sharing a video of her medal from the 2023 race, she said: ‘I just thought I’d have a look at this just to remind me where I’ve been and what I’m capable of, because I’m really freaking out today.

‘I don’t want to let anyone down and I don’t want to let this girl down, the girl that did this.’

Adele also posted a video documenting her cancer battle and marathon journey, writing: ‘For every precious soul affected by cancer, for their families, their friends… and for everyone living with a stoma. This is for you.’

She continued: ‘I can’t think of a better way to celebrate #bowelcancerawarenessMonth than running the @londonmarathon to complete the challenge and hopefully set a new Guinness World Record in the process as the first and fastest woman with a stoma to complete all 6.

‘I promise to give tomorrow my all – Just as I did after waking up from surgery. I will start small and dream big!! I will take it step by step… and each of those steps will lead me to the finish.

‘And I know you will all be with me every step of the way. I will run with all you in my heart.’

While she also paid tribute to her girlfriend, Kate Holderness, saying: ‘Thank you for being there with me EVERY STEP OF THE WAY @kateholderness. You’re the reason I never gave up. You’re my hero and I know with you by my side I can never lose ❤️ xxx’.

After completing the gruelling marathon, Adele was surprised with a message from her stoma nurse, Elaine, during an appearance on Lorraine.

In a moving video, Elaine told her: ‘You have inspired so many people and patients with stomas. You have been an absolute God send, you have been a person that others aim to aspire to.

‘What a great accomplishment and thank you for carrying us along on that journey with you.

Adele broke into tears seeing the message, as host Lorraine Kelly praised: ‘I get it because the people that helped you to get back and be you again are so important and sometimes we forget’.

Adele replied: ‘Without a doubt, I always say cancer’s a team effort and thanks to people like Elaine and the NHS, I couldn’t have done it without them.’The Dancing On Ice star previously disclosed that she felt ‘accountable’ for her cancer scare and felt ‘she was being punished for something’.

She said: ‘I totally thought that I had caused it [the cancer]. My first thought was ‘Am I going to die?’. But once he [the doctor] said he could help me, it’s all I held onto.

‘And when he said it wasn’t my fault that’s when I just cried and got so emotional.’
