The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield has thrown her support behind Matildas captain Sam Kerr as she faces a criminal charge of racially harassing a London police officer.
As revealed by Daily Mail on Tuesday, Kerr, 30, is preparing to face a four-day trial in February next year after she allegedly called a police officer ‘white’ and ‘stupid’ following a night out in Twickenham on January 30, 2023.
Reacting to the news on Wednesday, podcaster Chatfield, 28, reposted a meme via Instagram Stories showing an elated woman dancing around wildly in celebration.
The video, which was originally posted by feminist author Hannah Ferguson, was accompanied with the words: ‘Every Australian discovering what Sam Kerr actually said to the cop after the last 24 hours of complete distress.’
Ferguson also wrote, ‘National hero status re-confirmed Sammy’, in the caption when she uploaded it to her feed.

Abbie, who is friends with Ferguson, promptly ‘liked’ this post.
It comes after Chelsea striker Kerr appeared in a London court on Monday accused of using insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress to the officer in Twickenham on January 30 last year.
The Metropolitan Police say the dispute occurred following a complaint over a taxi fare.

On Tuesday, Football Australia revealed they had no knowledge of the alleged offence, calling into question why Kerr did not make the governing body aware after she was charged in January of this year.
Kerr entered a not guilty plea on Monday, with her legal team hoping to have the case thrown out when they return to court next month.
Known as ‘Millionaire Matilda’ due to her vast career earnings, Kerr is the only female player to have won the golden boot in three different leagues and on three different continents.
The all-time top goalscorer for Australia was selected to carry her nation’s flag at King Charles’ coronation at Westminster Abbey last May, fronting a Commonwealth contingent which included Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese.
