Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Timothee Chalamet, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Tom Holland lead showbiz’s leading stars under 30 in an industry which has always been obsessed with youth.
However, being forever young does not define Hollywood as some of the best acting performances have been done by thespians of retirement age.
The AARP Movies For Grownups panel released their list of 25 great performances from stars in their 60s and many incredible performances were recognized.
The organization hopes to ‘appreciate that it’s the faces etched with experience that bring the deepest stories to life on screen.’
A press release read: ‘AARP’s Movies for Grownups is honoring a remarkable group of actors whose performances have only grown richer with age—proving that some of the finest work comes not in spite of the years, but because of them.’
Topping the list was the unassailable Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance in 2017’s The Phantom Thread.

The now 68-year-old actor just hit the 60 mark at the time as the performance earned him an Oscar nomination in the coveted Best Actor category.
In the Paul Thomas Anderson written and directed romantic period drama, Daniel portrayed protagonist Reynolds Woodcock who is a haute couture dressmaker that takes a young waitress (Vicky Krieps) as his muse.
He ultimately lost out to Gary Oldman for his role in The Darkest Hour. Oldman, now 67, just missed the aged 60 cutoff for this list as he was 59 at the time of filming.
Daniel had won the acting top honor three times prior including for Lincoln in 2013, There Will Be Blood in 2008, and My Left Foot in 1990.
The Phantom Thread was his acting swan song as it was the incredible thespian’s final performance before retirement.
Coming in second was Jodie Foster for her work in 2023 flick Nyad.
The 62-year-old old actress also filmed the project at 60 as her work earned her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.
She portrayed Bonnie Stoll in the biographical sports drama who is the best friend and former partner to swimmer Diana Nyad who made multiple attemps to swim the Straits of Florida in the early 2000s.

Rounding out the top three was Tommy Lee Jones for his work alongside Daniel in 2007’s No Country For Old Men
She was beat out by Da’Vine Joy Randolph who swept awards season for her stellar performance in The Holdovers.

The now 78-year-old actor was also just hovering over 60 at the time as he portrayed Ed Tom Bell in the iconic film written and directed by brothers Ethan and Joel Coen.
Though Tommy’s acting performance was lauded by many, he did not earn an Oscar nomination as castmate Javier Bardem was nominated and won Best Supporting Actor.

Demi Moore also cracked the top 10 for her work in 2024’s The Substance
The top 10 of the prestigious list is rounded out by: Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights (1997), Helen Mirren in The Queen (2006), John Wayne in True Grit (1969), Demi Moore in The Substance (2024), Ricardo Montalbán in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982), Tom Hanks in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), and Jackie Chan in The Foreigner (2017).
AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, is an interest group in the United States focusing on issues affecting those 50 and older.
The organization, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C., said it had more than 38 million members as of 2018.
