Nicolas Cage is considered a dreamboat by many of his fans, but the actor is taking that to the next level is his latest film.
The actor, 59, who promoted Dream Scenario at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, is receiving accolades for his comedic talents.
The Oscar winner plays a low key college professor who, unbeknownst to him, suddenly begins turning up in the dreams of people he doesn’t even know.
The funny film was written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli.
Nicolas plays Paul Matthews, a typical nerdy dad of two, married to his wife, Janet, played by Julianne Nicholson.
Dream man: Nicolas Cage is a college professor who mysteriously begins showing up in people’s dreams in the new dark comedy Dream Scenario
He first finds out about his midnight forays into others’ subconscious when a friend tells him, ‘you’ve been on my mind recently. You keep popping up in my dreams.’
She tells him, ‘You don’t do anything. You’re just there.’
Others begin sharing their own experience with the ‘remarkable nobody’ in their dreams and word begins to get out.
After a television interview about the unusual phenomenon, Paul becomes a bit of a star, and the dreams seem to take on a more frightening tone and the teacher becomes the subject of some bullying and he begins to experience a real-life nightmare.
For his professorial role, Nicolas is anything but glamorous.
The versatile star was styled with a balding head, a graying beard and glasses.
The consensus of critics who have seen the movie resulted in an 86-percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Candice Frederick from the Huffington Post said, Dream Scenario is ‘A darkly funny, and often truthful, look at the rapid hysteria of our real-world cancel culture, Borgli’s latest helps cement him as a provocative and wildly entertaining voice for our times.’
