Brian Austin Green on Sunday paid an emotional tribute to late costar Beverly Hills, 90210 Shannen Doherty, amid news of her passing at the age of 53 after a yearslong battle with breast cancer.
The actor, 50, who portrayed David Silver on the Fox 90s hit, took to Instagram Stories with an emotional message following the news of Doherty’s passing.
He wrote: ‘Shan. My sister … .. You loved me through everything. You were a big part of my understanding of love. I’ll miss you more than I know how to process right now. Thank you for the gift of you.’
Green appeared on 292 episodes of the TV drama from 1990–2000, while Doherty played the role of Brenda Walsh for 111 episodes on the Aaron Spelling series from 1990-1994.
They would work together again in 2019 on the six-episode reboot BH90210, in which the actors played fictionalized versions of themselves.

The actor was comforted in the comment thread by a number of peers and fans after his statement about his late friend and costar.
Amanda Kloots, who was wed to late entertainer Nick Cordero at the time of his July 2020 death at 41 from COVID-19 complications, wrote, ‘Thought of you instantly Brian. I am sending you loads of love. So sorry for your loss.’
Kelly Rizzo, the widow of late comic-actor Bob Saget, who died at 65 in January of 2022, said, ‘Love you, friend. I am so deeply sorry. I am sending you so much love. What a long and special friendship.’
Actress Jacqueline Obradors said, ‘I’m so sorry, Brian. I know you two had a special bond. Sending you all my love.’
One fan expressed their deep grief in the thread, referencing late 90210 star Luke Perry, who died in 2019 at 52 in the wake of a stroke.
‘I cannot stop crying, i’m so heartbroken!’ the user said. ‘I can’t believe it! I know Shannen was back on chemo, but this is shocking! Now she is reunited with her Daddy & Luke … rip beautiful Angel Shannen Doherty.’

Green was a number of Beverly Hills, 90210 personalities to pay memorial to Doherty amid news of her death after her long-running health battle.

Jason Priestley, who played Doherty’s brother Brandon Walsh on the series, said on Instagram, ‘Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen.
‘She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.’
Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman on the series, said, ‘So young – so sad. May you RIP Shannen. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you.’
Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor on the show, called Doherty ‘one of the strongest people I have ever known’ in an Instagram post.
Garth added, ‘Our connection was real and honest. We were so often pitted against each other but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration.
‘She was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories.’

Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane told People in a statement on Sunday, ‘It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.
‘The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.’
Green, who turns 51 on Monday, is father to five children: Kassius Lijah, 22, with Vanessa Marcil, 55; and Noah, 11, Bodhi, 10, and Journey, seven, with ex-wife Megan Fox, 38; and two-year-old Zane with fiancée Sharna Burgess, 38.
