Jordan North has lifted the lid on his shock exit from Radio 1 and move to Capital, following his Breakfast show debut on the station on Monday.
The DJ, 34, also hesitantly described ‘mate’ and former BBC colleague Greg James, 38, as his new ‘rival’ as their battling shows will now compete for listeners every weekday morning.
Jordan claimed he hadn’t planned to leave the Radio 1, after appearing on their airwaves for a decade, until he was offered the plum role of replacing Roman Kemp, admitting: ‘You don’t turn down Capital Radio!’.
Going on to tell The Sun: ‘I know that sounds corny but it’s a massive breakfast show. I told three people, because I had to keep it quiet, and they all said, “Go for it'”.
‘I have loads of good friends [at Radio 1]. When I rang [former co-host] Vick [Hope] she was great. They all texted me before the first show’.
Adding: ‘Greg James said “Good luck”, They pit us as rivals but really we’re all mates.’

It was previously reported that Jordan – who was replaced by Jaime Laing – had been left blindsided by the news of his Radio 1 departure.
The Mirror claimed that the news he was leaving the show was a ‘shock to him’ as information about the departure ‘was issued without his knowledge in chaotic scenes’.
The publication reports that he had unwittingly already presented his last episode of the show by the time his departure was announced.
Tensions had reportedly been high ‘for months’ about his departure after he let producers know he wanted to leave.
The BBC and Jordan have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
The DJ’s first Breakfast show on Capital proved a hit with fans with some listeners claiming he was the ‘perfect replacement’ from Roman.
Jordan was visibly anxious as he made his first link on the show and said he struggled to sleep the night before due to nerves.
But it appears the nervous were completely unnecessary as viewers felt Jordan ‘absolutely smashed’ his first hosting stint.
