Andrew Lincoln has said he’s ‘delighted’ fans still want to see him naked onscreen at the age of 50, however his teenage children are less impressed at the prospect.

The Walking Dead actor has stripped off for numerous roles throughout his career, with his character seen masturbating in new ITV thriller Coldwater, which marks the star’s first UK TV role in 15 years.

Andrew confessed daughter Matilda, 17, and Arthur, 15, whom he shares with wife Gael Anderson, are still not speaking to him after he pre-warned them about his latest X-rated role.

‘I said to Arthur: “How would you feel about me pleasuring myself on national television?” And he said: “What do you think?”‘.

He continued: ‘My children haven’t talked to me since I did the job. My son just said: “Can you just not have waited for three years until I was through school?”.

Andrew said he too avoids watching himself on screen, with those duties given to wife Gael, who has given her approval of his latest raunchy role.

He told The Times: ‘Look, I’m just thrilled that people are still asking me to get naked at 50,’

Gael worked as the former assistant to Gwyneth Paltrow and is the daughter of Jethro Tull lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist Ian Anderson

Ian married her mother Shona Learoyd in 1976, who was described by Rolling Stone magazine at the time as a ‘beautiful convent-educated daughter of a wealthy wool manufacturer’.

Gael’s own wedding, in 2006, was a star studded affair with Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter Apple Martin acting as the flower girl.

The Teachers actress, daughter of musician Ian Anderson, and The Love Actually actor married in 2006 surrounded by friends.

Over the summer, they celebrated 15 years of marriage.

The upcoming drama sees Andrew playing a middle-age John living in London who is ‘secretly raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad’.

The cast also features Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Eve Myles (Keeping Faith).

The synopsis reads: ‘When his failure to intervene in a violent confrontation in a playground brings his identity crisis to a head, John ups and moves his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater, as far away from London as possible.’

Upon his arrival in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater, John is quickly befriended by next-door neighbour Tommy (Bremner), a charming, confident man, devoted husband to the local vicar Rebecca (Myles). He is a man of faith, a pillar of the community and self-appointed leader of the village’s all-male book group.

John is both impressed and slightly fascinated by Tommy but his wife Fiona (Varma) despises him.

As a successful former chef hoping to launch a new venture in Coldwater, Fiona sees the move as an opportunity to leave the past behind them. To not only re-build their lives as a family but re-ignite the long-lost spark in their fading marriage.

When her husband’s relationship with their enigmatic new neighbour becomes increasingly intense, Fiona’s suspicions are aroused. She is unconvinced Tommy is all he seems to be.

Writer and creator David Ireland has said of the series: ‘Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself. Where do I want to live – the countryside or the city?

‘Such an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller. I was delighted when Sister loved the script and thrilled when ITV decided to commission it.

‘And I’m amazed we’ve managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln. I hope viewers will be find it intoxicating.’

Coldwater airs on ITV1 and ITVX on September 14
