Bridgerton actress Ruby Barker has broken her arm after she went tumbling to the ground while bouldering at a climbing centre.

Ruby, 27, who played Marina Thompson in the first series of the modernised period drama, shared the accident on Instagram on Wednesday night.

The actress has been concentrating on her fitness after struggling with her mental health and revealed to fans she had diagnosed with Bipolar disorder just one day before her fall.

Ruby attended Last Sun Dance climbing and fitness gym, in Leeds, to go bouldering – climbing without being attached to a rope or harness which is normal practise.

But during one of her climbs, she lost her grip and went tumbling to the ground – where she landed on her arm.

Ruby had shared an earlier attempt at climbing the wall before showing a clip of the accident, where she fell backwards and then forwards onto her arm, shouting out in pain.

It was not clear if there was a chain present while Ruby was climbing, but none were visible from the video.

After the accident, she uploaded a video of her arm with an ice pack on it, where she was heard saying: ‘Right guys that’s me I’m off to hospital. I just came off this one up here and I fell wrong on my arm.

‘I believe I dislocated my arm and I’m in a lot of pain and I’m waiting on an ambulance. This is bouldering man, but I’m being taken care of really well. The ambulance might be three hours.’

Sharing an update, Ruby revealed they had decided to drive to the hospital instead rather than wait.

She said: ‘So I’m in the car, Alana’s here. We’re going nice and steady. We managed to make it into the car and we’re going to go to Leeds General Infirmary by ourselves.’

Clearly in pain, she added: ‘Any movement is hard. I’ve got a nice splint here. We’ve made a splint out of an oat milk box – keep it vegan – and hopefully we’ll get there safely and without too much movement. But we’re in the car and we’re going there now so I feel really positive about that.

‘Pain-wise it’s a solid 10 out of 10 and I have no idea how I’m managing to keep it this real but I’m strong as we can see.’

Ruby went on to say that a fan had warned her she could have broken her neck before the accident happened.

Later, while in hospital, she gave an update on her condition in the comments, saying: 'Dislocated elbow. Possible fracture, waiting in sorting the elbow out to do an another round of x rays'

‘I had a comment from a fan saying “Ruby you could break your neck here you’re not wearing the proper PPE there’s no crash mat”,’ she said. ‘Well there is a crashmat, this is bouldering you know, you only climb up to about eight feet, it’s about how you fall.

‘But the nature of the climb, it propelled me forward so I couldn’t land falling back which is what I should have done. I deleted this fan’s negative comment because I was like “Oh listen to this negative Nelly” and it turns out, she was right!’

‘l’m only rope climbing from now on, mark my words,’ she added. ‘I was bouldering with a crash matt but the impact and way I fell on my arm just snapped it out man x’

Ruby left hospital at around 11pm on Wednesday night and told another follower: ‘I broke my arm bro but yeah it was awesome.’

Last Sun Dance declined to comment when approached by MailOnline.

The actress has been open about her struggles with mental health since her time on the Netflix show but in recent months fans had been concerned for her wellbeing.

Just one day before the accident, Ruby shared a snap of herself with the caption: ‘Hi, I’m bipolar. I have a diagnosis now, cause for celebration #bipolar #mentalhealth #notalone #lastsundance.’

In November, Ruby slammed Netflix after she claimed the streaming site ‘failed to contact’ her when she was hospitalised after filming the show.

Speaking candidly on the LOAF Podcast on Saturday, Ruby said that she suffered two psychotic breaks – including one shortly after filming wrapped in 2019 and another in 2022.

She claimed that she had received ‘no support’ from Netflix amid her struggles and that there was no ‘aftercare’ even while dealing with a sudden rise to fame.

Ruby said: ‘When I went into hospital a week after shooting Bridgerton season one it was really covered up and kept on the down-low because the show was going to be coming out.

‘During filming I was deteriorating. It was a really tormenting place for me to be because my character was very alienated, very ostracised, on her own under these horrible circumstances.

‘Not a single person from Netflix, not a single person from Shondaland since I have had two psychotic breaks from that show have even contacted me or even emailed me to ask if I’m ok or if I would benefit from any sort of aftercare or support. Nobody.’

Ruby’s character Marina unexpectedly becomes pregnant as she stays with her distant cousins the Featheringtons, who treat her with disdain.

Marina also catches the attention of Colin Bridgerton, inciting the jealousy of Penelope Featherington who has long harboured a crush on him.
