Ashley Judd is starring in a new movie, which is her first since her mother Naomi Judd passed away two years ago.
The beauty will star in the thriller Lazarus, which dropped its first trailer on Wednesday.
The Someone Like You star, 55, plays Lee, an overprotective aunt who adopts her nieces Imogen and Maeve after their parents died.
Ashley’s character raises them in a remote cabin in the woods while a ‘deadly pandemic’ rages on.
‘For over 10 years, the girls are raised to never leave the woods, avoid any and all interaction with outsiders, and ultimately rely on Lee as their only connection to the outside world,’ according to a synopsis of the movie.
‘Lee has convinced the girls this is the key to survival in what is now an infectious and violent world.’

‘But, when Imogen and Maeve discover an injured man in the nearby woods, Lee’s absolute control begins to disintegrate as their faith in her, and everything they’ve ever known, begins to unravel,’ the synopsis continued.
At the beginning of the trailer, a voice over says: ‘My girls have never been to the outside. Lazarus is their sanctuary’ while ominous music place and a shot of Seattle looking deserted flashes on the screen.
As the trailer continues, one of Lee’s nieces discovers an injured man and attempts to help him with his wounds.
It is soon revealed that the man is fleeing from a crime which draws more people to their formerly secluded location.
The movie also stars Katie Douglas and Sarah Pidgeon as her nieces and Asher Angel as the injured man.
Judd posted on Instagram May 2023 when production on the film completed saying Lazareth reminded her of her 1993 movie Ruby in Paradise because of its ‘purity and simplicity.’
‘I play Aunt Lee to two young women whom I’ve raised since infancy, in an old cabin, self sufficient & isolated in the deep woods,’ she explained.
‘Free from social constructs and male violence, my perspective on the narrative may be different from the other characters,’ she wrote.

‘Making this movie reminded me of #RubyinParadise in its purity and simplicity. Night scenes lit by candles. Living in the woods near set,’ she continued.
‘We are all so eager for you to to see Lazareth when it comes out! I am grateful for this pristine experience and all the running charades we played!,’ she concluded.
Lazarus debuts on demand and in theaters on May 10.
