Dion Dublin Pays Tribute to Late Father, His ‘Guiding Light’ in Football

Homes Under The Hammer star Dion Dublin has announced his father Eddie has died.

Sharing a tribute on Instagram on Wednesday, the former footballer turned TV star wrote: ‘A fearless heart, our guiding light, A leader strong, both day and night.’

‘With bass in hand and Vodka near Your love and strength remain so clear! Gone,but NEVER forgotten! Rest In Peace Dad!’

Dion, 56, shared a photo of himself enjoying a drink with Eddie alongside the heartwarming words. 

Dion is the youngest of five siblings – he has a sister Carmen and brothers Eddie, Clem and Ash.

Their parents both came to England from the West Indies as part of the Windrush generation.

Dion’s late mum Rose worked as a district nurse whilst Eddie had the option to be a professional footballer but favoured a diferent career path. 

He ultimately turned down the chance to play for Fulham after accepting an offer to go on tour with Rod Stewart as his bass player. 

Eddie was still playing bass for a reggae band up until his death. 

Dion has revealed his father was responsible for kickstarting his own illustrious football career, after he was dropped by Leicester City at the age of 15. 

The sporting star explained how his dad sent letters to numerous clubs asking them to sign his son, before he eventually landed a contract with Norwich City in 1988.

Speaking to The Mirror in 2021, Dion explained his father was determined to help his son become a football star, after he was dropped by Leicester as a teen.

He said: ‘My dad was that convinced I was good enough, he wrote a letter and he photocopied it 92 times,’ reveals Dion.

‘He put stamps on them all and sent them out to every single professional football club in the country. He was asking for trials, saying, ”Give my son a chance”.

Dion's brother Clem also shared a loving tribute to Eddie on social media, saying: 'our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to a truly remarkable man'

‘He said, ”He’s very good, he’s this, he’s that” and then he just sat back and waited for the replies. I didn’t know a thing about. One of the replies that came was from Norwich City.’

Dion was eventually signed by the East Anglian club, and went onto play for top teams including Manchester United and Aston Villa.
