Veteran ABC weather presenter Paul Higgins left his social media followers confused after he announced he had departed the ABC before returning to air.
The Victorian weatherman shared a post to X, explaining that he had ‘decided to go in a different direction’.
‘For those wondering where I’ve got to on ABC channel, they have decided to go in a different direction. A huge thanks to all who I’ve spoken to and had contact with during my time on air. Appreciate your comments! #abcnewschannel,’ he wrote.
Despite the announcement, Higgins made an appearance on the ABC’s 24-hour news channel.
He then told The Australian, bosses ‘weren’t happy with the amount of leave he was taking’.

‘I never heard directly from news channel about the change. I was told they weren’t happy about my leave absences,’ he said.
‘But apparently they were more than happy with my work.’
He also wrote on X: ‘Thanks for all of your kind thoughts! Just to reiterate that I’m still hanging in there on the 7pm Victoria news. Just no more ABC News Channel.’
An ABC spokesperson also told the publication that Higgins will remain the Victorian weather presenter.
