Lottie Tomlinson has admitted she gave herself three months to ‘get her body back’ after gaining weight during pregnancy – but it took a year to feel happy again in her own skin.
The mother-of-one, who gave birth to son Lucky in August 2022, told MailOnline she has always been ‘conscious’ of her figure and ‘wanted to do something’ about the changes she had experienced after having a baby as soon as possible.
She explained gaining the weight had a ‘big effect’ on her self-esteem and she feels ‘sad’ looking back at photos when she was postpartum because she felt ‘sluggish’ and ‘void of energy.’
But after trying to find a quick fix, Lottie says her body transformation took an entire year, a timeframe that would have left her ‘devastated’ had she known.
Lottie, who’s the younger sister of One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, 32, says she’s ‘proud’ of her achievements after gaining back her confidence and accepting herself as a new mother – and the challenges it brings.

Lottie welcomed her son Lucky with fiancé Lewis Burton in August 2022 and says becoming a mother has taught her to accept who she is
She said: ‘It is crazy because I never expected to gain that much weight in my pregnancy… I have always been someone who is quite conscious about the way I look and I have always tried to keep fit.
‘To gain that kind of weight had a big effect on me and that’s why I wanted to do something about it as soon as I had the baby.
‘To see the before picture, it makes me sad because I look down in my face because I was feeling sluggish and with low energy.
‘I was in such a rush to lose the weight… that transformation took me a year and if someone told me that at the start of being postpartum, it’s going to be a year until you get your body back, I would have been devastated.
‘I wanted to do it within three months, I wanted to blitz it but I soon realised that it’s not realistic and my body had grown a human and I have also got to look after that human so it was never going to be possible.
‘Looking back now, that year has flown by, and I was able to do it healthily. I am proud of my journey and it’s still ongoing, which is exciting.’
On Monday, Lottie launched her new exercise and wellbeing app Verdure, which she hopes will give women a platform to train and access nutrition plans while focusing on fitness goals at their own pace.
After fluctuating with her diet and workout regime, Lottie says she has finally found a balance that works for her, including exercising up to five times a week and being consistent with her routine.

Lewis proposed to Lottie with a romantic trip to Paris in November and the couple are currently deciding the best time to get married for their family
She added: ‘Going on this journey and also being a new mum has given me a confidence boost and it’s helped me to accept who I am.
‘I have always enjoyed working out but I would pick it up and drop it and I struggled to get into a steady rhythm with it.
‘Since having Lucky and gaining a lot of weight, learning about the exercises that work for me and nutrition, I have adapted it to be part of my lifestyle instead of falling off different diets, which is what I used to do.
‘It’s making me feel happy and healthy and that’s why I have launched the app to hopefully help others too.’
In 2016, Lottie suffered the tragic loss of her mother Johannah Deakin to cancer.
Just three years later, her sister Félicité died from an overdose aged 18, leaving Lottie and her siblings devastated.
Following her heartache and building back her life with fiancé Lewis Burton by her side, Lottie has channelled her unfathomable grief into writing a book about overcoming her struggles.
Revealing the news for the first time, Lottie said: ‘I have another exciting project happening this year… I am launching a book this summer.
‘It is going to be personal to my story. It has been an amazing experience but also very emotional. I have loved it… it’s something I have wanted to do for ages.
‘We have been working on this for a couple of years, I can’t wait to release it and see when it all comes to life.’
Lottie revealed to MailOnline she is releasing her first book, which is about her life so far and the loss she has suffered

In recent years, she fell in love with tennis coach Lewis, who proposed in Paris last year.
As Lottie looks to the future, she hopes to have another child and says becoming an auntie to her sister Phoebe’s newborn Olive has made her even more broody.
She said: ‘I would definitely love to have another one. It’s hard to time it in especially now I’m engaged.
‘We don’t know whether to get married first or have another baby… it is quite a hard one to plan but we will see.
‘The logical thing to do would be to get married first but if we got married next year, then having a baby the following year seems so far away. I don’t know… it’s hard.
‘My sister Phoebe just had a little girl called Olive and she is so cute. Lucky is a one-and-a-half-year-old but she will go up to her and stroke her, he’s so gentle. He would be such a good brother.
Lottie and Lewis holidayed with their son Lucky in the Maldives, staying at luxury resort Kandima, with the mother admitting she has set the bar high for any future trips
The resort offers a range of activities such as water sports and pool parties, for those seeking an alternative to sunbathing
Lottie jokes her son is Lucky to have holidayed for the first time in the Maldives, with the mum setting the bar high for any future trips.
The family stayed at new luxury resort Kandima on the idyllic island in January.
And Lottie says there was no better start to her year, relaxing on the sandy white beaches of a 3-kilometre long island in the Dhaalu Atoll.
The resort, which is family friendly and provided the perfect landscape for Lucky to explore, also offers a range of activities such as water sports, pool parties and movie nights under the stars, for those seeking an alternative to sunbathing.
Lottie said: ‘Pictures don’t do it justice… it’s the most amazing, calm, picturesque, blue sea… it is amazing.
‘I took Lucky there for his first ever holiday, which is very lucky for him.
‘He is really good on planes and travelling, if anything it’s harder for the parents. But it’s worth it because you end up in paradise and you make memories of a lifetime.’
