Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad’s mother Vivian Ayers has died at the age of 102.
Allen was the person who shared the sad news on social media on Thursday about her mom’s passing.
‘Mommie, you have transformed into that cosmic bird Hawk that lives and breathes Freedom,’ shared Allen on Instagram.
‘We will follow your trail of golden dust and continue to climb higher. We promise “to be true, be beautiful, be Free” Love Love Love Love Love,’ continued Allen.
Allen is a 75-year-old actress, dancer, choreographer, director, producer, and author.
She’s known for her work on the 1982 musical drama Fame, where she played dance teacher Lydia Grant and did the main choreography.

Allen has directed and produced many television classics, including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and A Different World.
Rashad is a 77-year-old actress, singer, stage director, and producer.
She’s best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984–92), which earned her Emmy nominations.
Rashad has also appeared in Empire, This Is Us, and David Makes Man. On Broadway, she’s starred in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, August: Osage County, and Gem of the Ocean.
Ayers was a poet and playwright.
She began her literary career with the publication of Spice Of Dawns in 1952, according to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture.
In 1939 she graduated from the Brainerd Institute in Chester, thenwent to Barber-Scotia College and Bennett College.
Ayers also received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from two HBCUs, Bennett College in North Carolina, and Wilberforce University in Ohio.

She studied classical Greek at Rice University, Columbia University, and Princeton University.
And she also studied Mayan culture and astronomy.
Vivian and the late Andrew Allen shared four children together: Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, and their two brothers, Hugh Allen and Andrew Arthur ‘Tex’ Allen Jr. However.
‘It was my mother who taught us choral speech; it was my mother who taught us to tumble across the living room floor,’ said Rashad to NPR in 2010.
‘It was my mother who gave us a real appreciation for art and literature as living things, not just as something hung on the wall or placed on the shelf — an appreciation for ideas and the power of thought and human intention. My mother gave us a lot — she gave us everything.’
