Kieran Culkin marked a career high on Sunday as he scooped his first Golden Globe award for his stellar turn as Roman Roy in Succession.
The actor, 41, first shot to fame as a child star courtesy of his older brother and Home Alone legend Macaulay Culkin, now 43 – playing the role of Kevin McCallister’s bedwetting cousin, Fuller in the 1990 movie.
He would reprise this role in the 1992 sequel and play Matthew Banks in Steve Martin and Diane Keaton comedies Father of the Bride (1991) and Father of the Bride Part II (1995) – but seemed destined to forever be in Macaulay’s shadow.
He would once again play a supporting role in iconic teen comedy She’s All That in 1999 as Laney Boggs’ little brother Simon.
His breakout adult role would come as the lead in 2002 film Igby Goes Down – which scored him his first Golden Globe nomination. Four more nominations would follow before he finally scooped the sought-after accolade.
As Kieran Culkin eclipses Macaulay’s fame, DailyMail.com looks back at the star’s road to superstardom…

BEGINNINGS AS A CHILD STAR
The star’s first-ever acting role came about in his brother Macaulay’s iconic movie Home Alone in 1990 – with the-then seven-year-old Kieran winning fans with his portrayal of mischievous McCallister cousin, Fuller.
One legendary scene poking fun at Fuller’s bedwetting saw the actor enthusiastically drink a soda, as his mom says: ‘Fuller! Go easy on the Pepsi!’ – as Fuller hilariously smiles at Kevin.
He would reprise his role in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York – with his character winning worldwide acclaim.
Kieran would step up his screen presence as Steve Martin and Diane Keaton’s onscreen son Matthew Banks in 1991’s Father of the Bride – which was a box office hit.
Further showing off his comedic flair, his character would get increased screentime in 1995’s Father of the Bride Part II – one year after his brother Macaulay announced his retirement from acting after starring in Richie Rich.

Macaulay was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for Home Alone but lost to Gérard Depardieu – Green Card.
Youngest Culkin sibling Rory, now 34, was also a child star, starring alongside Oscar winners Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix in 2002 film Signs, as well as in his brothers’ films Igby Goes Down and Richie Rich – playing younger versions of their characters.
He has since soared to worldwide acting success in films and TV including Scream 4, Swarm and Black Mirror.
Kieran beat co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong to win Best Actor at the Golden Globes, saying in his speech: ‘This isn’t mine, this is one for the team. It’s been said, but it’s a team effort, this show.’
Succession, which first aired in 2018, follows the story of the cutthroat Roy family, headed by Brian’s character Logan, battling it out to tale control of the world’s biggest media conglomerate when the patriarch steps down.
Last May, the show reached its finale in its fourth season.
The actor began his speech as hilariously as predicted as he said: ‘Oh, nightmare! Ugh! Sit down! Boy, thank you. Sorry, I’m burping indigestion. Didn’t need to say that.

‘Otherwise, this is a nice moment for me. I’ve blown it already. You are right. You said “Just say thanks and leave.” You are right. I was nominated for a golden globe like 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I still remember thinking, I’m never going to be back in this room again. Which is fine, whatever. But thanks to Succession I’ve been in here a couple times.’
He then poked fun at fellow nominee Pedro Pascal.
Kieran continued: ‘It’s nice, but I expected I would never be on the stage, so this is a nice moment. Suck it, Pedro. [Laughter] Mine! Really quickly, I’d like to thank everybody on Succession. Our writers, the amazing cast, everybody that showed up that believed in this thing and that it was very cool.
‘This isn’t mine, this is one for the team. I know, wrap it up. I want to really quickly just thank three amazing women in my My manager, without whom I wouldn’t have a career, my wife, jazz, for putting up with this and all that comes with it, and my wonderful mom. Mom, thank you so much for doing everything you did for us. You are an amazing woman. Okay, that’s it.’
