Who were the husbands of Glynis Johns?

The Mary Poppins actress tied the knot four times over the course of her century long life.

She set eyes on her first husband, Anthony Forwood in 1941 whilst rehearsing for Quiet Wedding, where she played bridesmaid Miranda Bute.

In the year that followed the English actor asked for Glynis’ hand in marriage a month after their first date in 1942.

They welcomed only child, Gareth Forwood into the world on October 14, 1945 in Marylebone, London.

Their marriage fell apart only three years after their son’s birth. The reason cited for the divorce was ‘adultery’, The Sun reports.

But Glynis did not give up on love, and eventually became romantically involved with Encore co-star Antony Darnborough in 1951.

Antony popped the question to Glynis at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Berskhire.

However, their love affair was not meant to be as their wedding fell through.

Following the failed romance, the single mother went on to wed Royal Navy officer, David Foster in Manhattan, New York in 1952.

Four years after her divorce from David in 1956, the actress made it official with her third husband, businessman Cecil Henderson.

Cecil alleged that their marriage broke down because Glynis was unfaithful.

Her final husband came in the form of United States Air Force captain and writer, Elliott Arnold.

They made their way down the aisle in Los Angeles in 1964, and divorced nine years later in 1973.

When queried about potentially tying the knot for a fifth time post divorce in 1973, she told The Sun: ‘I’d tread very softly in that area. Very softly.

‘I certainly wouldn’t rush into anything again, and I’d have to have an awful lot in common with anyone I’d consider marrying next time.’

Glynis outlived all four of her husbands, including her only son, Gareth, who passed away from a heart attack on October 16, 2007.

Does Glynis Johns have any living relatives?

Presently her closest living family member is her grandchild, Thomas Forwood, 48.

He was born on March 25, 1974 in Wimbledon to Gareth Forwood and French mother, Veronique Lecoq.

According to The Sun, Thomas was largely raised by his grandmother Glynis.

He eventually became a writer and film director, working on numerous films including, Simon, Alvinnn!!! And the Chipmunks, Le Moment Venu and more.

Discussing his grandparent with the Daily Express, he said: ‘My grandmother had the most incredible career over many decades and produced this vast body of work,’

‘There’s so much of it. I’ve only seen a fraction of it myself. But I’m immensely proud of her.

‘It was strange growing up and saying to my friends, “Oh my grandma was in Batman”. Or seeing her in Mary Poppins.’
