Todd and Julie Chrisley spark outrage after appearing on Masked Singer in first TV gig since jail release

The Masked Singer has been plagued with backlash for platforming convicted tax evaders Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley on season 14 of the show.

The couple were unmasked as the Croissants during Wednesday night’s episode which prompted fans to hit out at their casting. 

Before the reveal, Todd, 56, and Julie, 52, hinted at their identities in the premiere with a rendition of Jailhouse Rock.

They also indicated that they were reality stars who had been ‘canceled’ and separated by fate.

As soon as Todd and Julie’s pastry heads were removed, outraged Masked Singer fans flooded the show’s official Instagram account to lambast the ‘disgusting’ and ‘stupid’ decision to have them compete.

Taking to the comments, one said: ‘Should be in jail but on Masked Singer. I will pass this season and all the rest.’

Addressing the show’s bosses, another wrote: ‘You guys — this was a really stupid decision and reeked of desperation. You’re better than them.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, a third said: ‘Disgusting for you to give them a platform. But not surprising for Fox. Great job.’

‘Do you guys enjoy casting felons?’ a fourth asked.

‘”Reality TV power couple” YOU MEAN FELONS?’ another continued while a sixth pleaded, ‘No more controversial unmaskings this season, please…’

Todd and Julie were both convicted in 2022 for orchestrating a $30 million bank fraud and tax evasion scheme.

They began their multi-year sentences in 2023 before being pardoned by President Donald Trump in May 2025.

The couple’s daughter Savannah, 28, campaigned tirelessly for their early release during their time behind bars.

Following their pardon, Todd was asked by journalists whether he feels any remorse over his conviction, to which he firmly hit back.

‘I would have remorse if it was something that I did,’ he said. ‘The corruption that went on in our case is going to continue to unfold.’

Todd and Julie share sons Chase, 29, and Grayson, 19, and daughter Savannah. Todd also has son Kyle, 34, and daughter Lindsie, 36, with ex-wife, Teresa Terry.

Savannah previously appeared on the eleventh season of the Masked Singer where she was unmasked as the Afghan Hound. 

This isn’t the first time that Masked Singer has received criticism over its casting choices.

In 2022, the show was hit with backlash after Rudy Giuliani was unmasked as Jack in the Box.

Giuliani is considered a controversial political figure due to his alliance with Trump and his claims that the 2020 election had been ‘stolen.’

Prior to that, Republican politician and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin was unmasked after appearing on the show in 2020 as Bear.
