It’s no secret that drama clings to the eyebrow queen of Double Bay, Kristin Fisher – though, let’s be clear, the real brow royalty is Amy Jean… but I digress.
On Tuesday, I attended the newly renovated Downing Centre Local Court after reports last weekend that a mystery man, known only by the pseudonym AA, had been charged with allegedly breaking into the beautician’s home.
The man, aged in his 30s and living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, cannot be named because of a court order. He was arrested in October.
Police allege he broke into Fisher’s eastern suburbs apartment ‘with intent’, though they’ve remained tight-lipped about what that intent was.
He has since been charged with aggravated break and enter and released on bail.
It is understood the man knows the 40-year-old mother-of-two – and that she had an AVO in place to protect herself from him.
Kristin Fisher’s home was allegedly broken into ‘with intent’ by a man known to her. His identity is now the subject of fervent speculation in Sydney’s east. (Fisher is seen in May 2024)
Now here’s where it gets surreal. The man is not what you’d call the ‘type’ to be accused of break and enter.
At court, he was well-presented and dressed like he was on his way to a client lunch at Barangaroo. No ill-fitting suit or brothel-creeper shoes. A polished alleged burglar.
He then made the catastrophic error of sitting next to me.
From close range, I was able to take in a better picture of this seemingly professional young man. He seemed more like the kind to scroll through the AFR while waiting for the markets to open rather than someone anticipating Magistrate Scott Nash.
At one point, I clocked a horoscope email on his phone screen. Perhaps he wanted to see what the stars had in store for his hearing?
It was only when he noticed me reading the Daily Mail homepage that the penny dropped. He realised I was there for him.
He swiftly moved to the seat behind me.
AA is being represented by Nick Hanna of Hanna Legal.
Kristin has fallen out with several eastern suburbs socialites, including Nadia Fairfax-Wayne (right) and entrepreneur Shelley Sullivan, neither of whom is involved with the alleged break-in
A Sydney magistrate had infamously told Fisher: ‘People who justify their cocaine usage as socially acceptable or as part of the social fabric… it is not. It is a criminal, illegal drug’
Mr Hanna is regarded as one of NSW’s top criminal defence lawyers, having appeared in some of the state’s most high-profile and complex cases.
He also has significant expertise in AVO applications.
Fisher is known for her Double Bay eyebrow clinic, which followed her ownership of a Brazilian Butterfly franchise in Perth.
Her on-off friendships with some big names in the eastern suburbs – including Dina Broadhurst, MCoBeauty cosmetics founder Shelley Sullivan and Nadia Fairfax-Wayne – have made her a gossip column fixture.
Meanwhile, a glance at AA’s Instagram following list suggests he’s no interloper. He looks to have connections in the elite social set where Fisher used to hold court, though he’s not a well-known name himself.
In recent years, Fisher has racked up enough drama to make her one of the most talked-about women in Sydney.
Her salon went into voluntary administration in November 2023, with debts reportedly topping $900,000.
A restructuring plan to repay just $216,000 was initially rejected by the ATO, forcing the appointment of joint administrators. They would later finalise a life-saving deal to stave off bankruptcy that slashed her tax bill to under $100,000.
Sources say lockdowns, a messy marriage breakdown and questionable financial decisions all played a part in her business’s decline.
Her controversies don’t stop at money. In July 2021, she was arrested for buying cocaine after police found her in the passenger seat of a car with two bags of white powder at her feet.
Kristin Fisher is seen leaving Waverley Local Court in 2021 on a separate matter
She failed to appear in court three times, blaming her children for misplacing the court notice – pinned, apparently, to the fridge.
Eventually, she fronted up, pleading guilty and describing the episode as a ‘dreadful mistake,’ adding she was ‘deeply embarrassed’ by her actions.
Magistrate Ross Hudson annulled the conviction on the condition she stayed on good behaviour for six months, though he didn’t hold back on a broader critique. He slammed the rampant cocaine use in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, calling it a ‘stain on our community’.
I’ll admit, Fisher isn’t exactly a fan of mine after years of covering her antics on the social circuit. She is known to dislike the Mail and other outlets that report on the endless soap opera that is her life.
I’m told she’s sweating over the prospect of AA’s identity being exposed and the full details of that night making headlines.
The matter is next listed for February 24, with AA excused from appearing.
