Dakota Fanning always looks so elegant in designer dresses when at splashy Hollywood events.

But over the weekend the 31-year-old movie actress had a very unusual fashion emergency as she went bra free in a gown that looked like a satin-and-lace negligee.

Her chest seemed to pop out of the gown exposing much more than she likely wanted to.

The Man On Fire actress did not seem to notice as she smiled for the camera.

The event was W Magazine’s Annual Best Performances Party at the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood on Saturday.

Also at the party was her younger sister, Elle Fanning.

This comes after Dakota said her performance in Vicious was inspired by a real-life experience.

The 31-year-old actress stars in the new horror film, and Dakota has revealed that a real-life event actually influenced her on-screen performance.

The Hollywood star told Extra: ‘The character that I play, Polly, receives a package from a mysterious visitor, and chaos ensues. I think it’s really a pure horror film, and then at its centre it’s like a story of this woman who’s in this psychological battle within herself, with her own thoughts, with her own mind.’

Dakota subsequently explained how a ‘lucid dream’ influenced her performance in the movie.

She said: ‘I once had this really lucid dream that when I woke up in the morning, I for five minutes didn’t know if the dream had really happened or not, like, genuinely. And I was like, ‘I’ve lost my mind.’ And I think that’s sort of the place that we’re meeting Polly at. And it just kind of goes from there.’

Dakota found the role to be emotionally taxing.

The actress explained that she spent hours crying on set every day for the movie, and that the experience left her feeling emotionally exhausted.

She explained: ‘You’re crying for 12 hours a day pretty much most of the time, but I’ve always been an actor that’s had to like dip in and out. Like, I can’t hold it for a whole day, you know, like, I have to be able to laugh.’

Dakota actually cherished leaving the set and putting her work behind her each day.

The actress – who is the older sister of fellow film star Elle Fanning – explained that she enjoyed escaping the emotionally-draining work.

Dakota shared: ‘There’s no better feeling than being done at the end of the day and then going home. And for me, it’s, like, getting in the bathtub and then watching my shows on my iPad in the bed. Then you just like wait for that moment and it’s so nice.’

Last year Elle said she hopes to have children some day.

The 27-year-old star’s latest movie Sentimental Value follows two sisters who reunite with their estranged father and she explained that having her own brood is something she ‘definitely’ wants to do in the future as the picture taught her important lessons about family dynamics.

Elle told People: ‘It’s kind of the beauty of this film, the universal themes that people are relating to, and it is about family that is broken and the traumas that are passed down through families that sometimes you don’t realize, but we all have them.

‘There’s a kind of healing power of art. I don’t know if something can be completely healed all the way.’

She added of the film: ‘It doesn’t tie everything up into a perfect bow, but maybe it will open the door for understanding and forgiveness, and so that’s the beauty of it for me.’

Meanwhile, Elle is set to star in her first movie alongside her older sibling Dakota Fanning in the upcoming flick The Nightingale and is optimistic that their family bond will aid their on-screen performances.

The Maleficent star said: ‘I think we’re going to have to be fellow actors on set, but of course we are playing sisters in the film that we’re going to be working on together, so we have to bring a little bit of that.’

However, Dakota revealed recently that she was feeling ‘nervous’ for the pair’s first film together.

The 31-year-old actress said: ‘For a while, (Elle and I) were very conscious of carving our own paths and being really selective about the things that we did together.

‘We don’t feel that pressure anymore. We’ve established that we’re two different people with two different journeys. It’s best to be able to come together now. We’re very excited about (The Nightingale). A little nervous, but excited.’
