Jennifer Lawrence has garnered backlash from some fans after she revealed that she gave up her dog after it bit one of her young children.
The 35-year-old actress – who recently brushed aside her shock SAG Actor Awards snub – had made the revelation while attending a screening of her movie Die My Love in NYC earlier this week on Wednesday.
At one point, the Oscar winner said that her son had been bitten by her chihuahua and said ‘that made me want to obliterate every dog ever.’ However, she explained the dog is now safely living with her parents instead.
Social media users have since offered their thoughts in the comment section of an Instagram clip shared by E! News that showed the conversation.
One penned, ‘you don’t dump your dog just because you had kids you learn to teach your kids to respect your pet wow I really don’t like her now.’
Another wrote, ‘This is so disappointing,’ and a fan added, ‘Thats an awful statement.’

‘Ufff Jen did not pass the vibe test. Poor dog,’ an Instagram user shared, and one typed, ‘She should never own any dogs or pets if she thinks like that.’
Another commented, ‘This is setting a precedence for so many other people that look up to you to just abandon their fur babies when they have kids.’
‘So sad and disappointing,’ one penned and a fan also shared, ‘This is not funny. Like, at all. dog bites are awful and a VERY real concern which is why slow integration and training with kids is an absolute necessity.’
They continued, ‘Saying she wants to “obliterate” every dog when we already see so many euthanized at our local shelters just broke my heart.’
‘YIKES. Im SHOCKED. I loved her.. this is so disappointing. i hope people dont think this is normal behavior,’ another said.
‘I have twins and my dogs are family FOREVER. We are a pack together. A home full of love, respect, loyalty and time dedicated to all.. DO BETTER JENNIFER.’
However, others came to Lawrence’s defense as one pointed out, ‘Guys, she rehomed with HER PARENTS. They are in a happier and safer environment and her kids are as well.’
One also wrote, ‘As a professional dog trainer and nonprofit dog shelter founder, this comment section isn’t it. Dog people are some of the most judgemental people around. We don’t know the situation.
‘If she felt her dogs were unsafe around children, we should not be judging a mother and a decision she made for the safety of her children. A parent should ALWAYS choose her child’s safety.’
One commented, ‘If your dog bites ur kid you should rehome them. Why is that controversial.’
During a Q+A discussion at the screening of Die My Love this week, Lawrence was questioned if she was more of a dog or cat person in a video also posted by TV producer John Pascarella.
‘One of them bit my son, and that made me want to obliterate every dog ever,’ The Hunger Games star replied.
Lawrence is mom to son Cy, three, and another baby boy welcomed in early 2025 – whom she shares with husband Cooke Maroney.
She was referencing to her chihuahua named Princess Pippi Longstocking and shared that the dog is living comfortably with her parents now.
The actress expressed, ‘She did not like New York. I lived on 1st and 67th just to be near the park for her. After I had a kid, dogs became so scary.
‘My son’s going up to it and it’s almost like I don’t recognize dogs right now. I just see them as a threat.’

Lawrence further reflected on how her life has changed since welcoming her two kids to the world.
‘Anyway, after I had a kid, our dogs became so scary, you know? It’s almost, like, I don’t recognize dogs right now. I just see them as a threat.’
While her dog has since been rehomed, the Hollywood A-lister still owns her cat named Fred.
‘I have a cat and I feel like they’re so misunderstood. They are a**holes and people who don’t like that about cats are getting that that is what is so funny.’
