Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles took to Instagram on Wednesday to wish her granddaughter Blue Ivy a happy 14th birthday.
The 72-year-old matriarch – who is mom to Beyoncé, 44, and Solange Knowles, 39 – created a photo montage of her granddaughter in every year of her life.
Sharing the post with her 4.2 million followers, she added a lengthy and heartfelt caption, revealing a rather unique reason for Blue’s unusual moniker.
Knowles revealed the origin of the teenager’s name as she wrote, ‘I remember the day that we found out about you being in your mom‘s womb. We could not have been more excited!
‘We were told that you were the size of a blueberry and that is where your name came from!’
She added: ‘We all prayed together for you every single day till you were 12 weeks old in your mom’s belly! Then we prayed individually until you arrived months later.’

Elsewhere in the note, Knowles said about Blue, ‘It was apparent that you were a fighter from the beginning, and you talked very early. And you were always smart as a whip.’
She recalled, ‘We played Princess and Barbie dolls all the time and your imagination was incredible.’
Wrapping up the message, she said: ‘To say that I’m a proud grandmother is an understatement!
‘Even with all of your accomplishments and success, you remain a very sweet, kind humble human being. ❤️To my manager, makeup artist, fashion adviser, my love. Happy Birthday❤️.’

The Brooklyn-bred music artist and Texas-born pop star Beyoncé married in 2008.
In addition to Blue they share eight-year-old fraternal twins Rumi and Sir.

Blue has already begun to follow in her parents’ footsteps in entertainment.
She memorably showed off her dance skills during Beyoncé’s recent Renaissance and Cowboy Carter tours.
She also performed alongside the former Destiny’s Child singer during Netflix’s Christmas Day NFL Halftime Show in 2024.
Additionally, the teen voiced the character of Princess Kiara in the 2024 Disney film Mufasa: The Lion King.
