Spencer Pratt announces run for LA Mayor one year after wildfires destroyed his and Heidi Montag’s home

Spencer Pratt has revealed he will run for Mayor of Los Angeles – one year after wildfires devastated California and destroyed his home.

The reality star, 42, who is wed to Heidi Montag, 39, made the bombshell announcement as he attended the They Let Us Burn! protest in the Palisades on Wednesday.

Pratt told the New York Post: ‘The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken. It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash. Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action.

‘That’s why I am running for mayor. And let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign, this is a mission, and we’re gonna expose the system.

‘They intentionally let us burn before, during and after. There was no accountability. It was gross negligence. They let this happen.

‘It wasn’t a natural disaster or something that was unavoidable. It was their fault, and we need the accountability we deserve.’ Pratt did not reveal which party he was running for.

The home Pratt and Montag lived in with their two sons in Pacific Palisades was incinerated in the devastating blazes.

Pratt was later seen rifling through the debris at the home he shared with Montag for crystals or other personal artifacts that might have potentially survived the blaze.

The reality TV star also took photos of a burnt tricycle belonging to one of his two children.

The Hills alum was clad in a black T-shirt and khaki shorts as he surveyed the damage of his home, which had a few walls standing in the aftermath.

The couple’s home was flattened to the ground after the raging fire took over the LA landscape and wreaked fiery havoc on Tuesday evening, and photos obtained by DailyMail.com on Wednesday showed the severity of the devastation.

The only parts of the home still standing were the charred entry gate and the front portion of the home’s stucco perimeter wall. Large piles of debris were seen throughout the property as well as burnt foliage that once decorated the home’s front yard.

Not only was the couple’s residence destroyed, but Pratt’s parents also lost their home to the fire.

Pratt shared a photo of the little that remained of his parent’s house to his Instagram Stories.
