Industry star Myha’la reveals she secretly married her partner Armando Rivera last year after they met when he slid into her DMs during lockdown

Industry star Myha’la has revealed she secretly tied the knot with her partner Armando Rivera over a year ago, as she marked their first anniversary on Instagram.

The actress, 29, has played Harper Stern in the racy HBO drama since 2020, and had shared she met her spouse when he slid into her Instagram DMs during lockdown.

Myha’la revealed she and Armando had married by sharing snaps from their nuptials on Instagram, and wrote in the caption that only close friends and family knew they had tied the knot.

The star opted for an elegant white lace midi dress as she posed with her husband, exchanging their vows in a low-key ceremony after five years together.

She captioned the post: ‘One year of marriage. Sos if this is how you’re finding out, promise we didn’t tell most everyone.

‘Speedy officiating by @jojoplutz Endlessly grateful to our friends and family for helping make this day so very magical.’

Many of her celebrity pals were quick to share their appreciation, with her co-star Marisa Abela saying: ‘It’s so mum and dad, it’s crazy.’

Myha’la had previously revealed she and Armando met when he sent her an Instagram DM during lockdown.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2024, she explained that pandemic restrictions left her with time to scroll through her Instagram, and she came across a message from her now-husband congratulating her on Industry’s debut.

While she replied with a simple thank-you, she shared that she then  woke up to a series of video messages from Rivera, and while she was hesitant to open them, she found him ‘kind of cute’ when she checked out his profile.

In his videos, Armando explained he wanted to interview Myha’la for his journalism project, and when she accepted, what was meant to be a 10-minute chat on Zoom turned into a full 40 minutes.

‘We hop off, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m in love with a stranger. How weird,’ she said. She said that she followed up a few days later, and Armando asked for her number.

Myha’la said that they enjoyed a string of Facetime dates before finally meeting in person in early 2021, telling W Magazine: ‘He was at school in San Francisco, and I’m from San Jose, which is just a 50-minute drive.

‘I was visiting my mother in January of 2021, and I said, ”Hey, I’m going to be in town. Do you want to meet in real life?”

‘He said, ”Sure.” It was still very deep COVID, so when I got there, I was testing every day, and the test results weren’t getting back [in time]. I was like, ”F**k it, I’m just going to go and hope for the best.” And I drove to his apartment.’

Myha’la described their first time holding hands as ‘otherworldly’, and said they became ‘inseparable from then on.’

When Armando finished his studies, he moved in with her in New York, and she told ELLE: ‘When we met, I was like, ”I don’t need you, I don’t need you, and you don’t need me, but I want you, and you want me.” We choose each other; we enrich each other’s lives.’

‘Being individually independent then makes us more available for the other person, which is extra s**t that I didn’t know I wanted – and now I feel like I can’t go without being loved in this way.’

Rivera proposed to Myha’la in July 2024 in the doorway of their shared New York apartment, and after struggling with the daunting prospect of planning a wedding, they decided to marry in an intimate ceremony.

HBO renewed Industry, created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, for a fourth season in September 2024, and it’s set to begin on January 11.

Season three ended with Rob leaving Pierpoint to work on a psilocybin startup, while his close friend and love interest Yasmin (Marisa Abela) married Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington).

On Thursday, it was revealed that Handmaid’s Tale star Max Minghella has been cast in the upcoming season.

Max, 39, will play Whitney Halberstram, the CFO and Founder of Tender, a payment processor entering a growth phase.
