Cher has reflected on her relationship with boyfriend Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, revealing she believes she manifested the rapper and his young son into her life.
The music icon, 79, made the surprising admission on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast this week, where she described her 39-year-old partner as ‘wonderful’ and claimed he is one of only two men she has ever dated who she truly deserves.
‘Before I met him, I walked around my house saying, “I want a man and a toddler,”‘ the Believe singer revealed. ‘I wasn’t expecting them together, but that’s what I wanted. I was expecting them separately.’
The Grammy winner got exactly what she asked for when she began dating Alexander just over three years ago, as he shares six-year-old son Slash with ex-girlfriend Amber Rose.
The mother of two has become close with the youngster and recently took him to see a show. ‘I’ve just seen The Lion King because we have a six-year-old. And he’s really precocious,’ she said.
‘His dad ended up chasing us, and I had a guard there, and he [Slash] goes up to the guard, and he takes his face, and he goes, “My dad’s a psychopath!”‘

The Strong Enough hitmaker was quick to clarify with a laugh: ‘He’s not’.
The legendary performer also opened up about why her relationship with Alexander works so well, praising him for being secure in her success and spotlight.
When host Dax, 51 – who is married to actress Kristen Bell, 45 – said he’s not ‘threatened’ by his wife’s success or ‘shine’, Cher replied: ‘Alexander is that way too. The more I shine, the more he has for him.’
The Oscar winner went on to say Alexander is only one of two men in her life she feels she truly ‘deserved’ – alongside music mogul David Geffen.
Cher started dating David in 1973 towards the end of her unhappy marriage to singer-songwriter Sonny Bono, to whom she was wed from 1964 to 1975.
Entertainment executive David, now 82, played a crucial role in helping her escape from what she described as an oppressive business arrangement with Sonny, who controlled Cher Enterprises and left her with no say in career decisions despite being the bigger star.
David, who later came out as gay in 1992, described his 18-month relationship with Cher as ‘the greatest high I had ever experienced’.
In her autobiography, Cher: The Memoir, Part One, she detailed the difficulties of her marriage to Sonny – the father of her son Chaz, 56 – alleging that he ‘manhandled’ her at times and at one point ‘seriously thought about’ killing her.

She married musician Gregg Allman just four days after her divorce from Sonny was finalised in 1975, and the couple welcomed son Elijah Blue in 1976 before divorcing.
On the podcast this week, Cher described Gregg as ‘a kind, talented man that was a drug addict’. She added: ‘When we had great times, he was very human and exceptional. And when he was doing drugs, he left. I mean, he would go away and then he’d come back.’
Despite the challenges, Cher maintains friendships with several of her exes, including David Geffen and Robert Camilletti – nicknamed Bagel Boy by the media when they met in 1986.
Robert, 17 years Cher’s junior, was an aspiring actor and bagel baker – now pilot – whom Cher considered one of the great loves of her life despite their brief relationship ending in 1989.
Cher and her current beau Alexander have been together for just over three years and live together at her 13,000-square-foot Italian Renaissance-style mansion in Malibu.

The couple regularly enjoy glamorous outings together, as they both share a love of fashion and socialising.
Last month, a spokesperson for Cher shut down reports that the couple were planning to wed, reportedly stating: ‘There is absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future.’
The denial came after a report claimed Cher ‘doesn’t give a hoot’ about their 40-year age gap and was ready to tie the knot around the time of her 80th birthday in May.
However, despite not having wedding plans, Cher has been vocal about how happy she is in the relationship.
Speaking to Gayle King last year, she said: ‘You know, you get older but your spirit is younger. I just love him. I think he’s beautiful and he’s really talented.’
When asked about online criticism of their age difference, she dismissed it entirely, adding: ‘They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us. We just have a blast.’
