Dana Carvey appeared on social media on Saturday to share a solemn message with his 262,000 followers in the wake of his son Dex’s sudden death.
The 68-year-old Wayne’s World actor — who shared the news of the 32-year-old’s fatal overdose earlier this week — explained he will be taking a break from work and being active online.
In italicized black font set against a white background, he said, ‘I will be taking a break from social media — trying to figure out what life looks like now that we are a family of three.’
The note began, ‘My wife and I have been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion.’
He added, ‘We received so many beautiful messages from people who knew Dex. These touched us more than we could ever express in words.’

The vulnerable post has so far collected over 19,000 likes and many supportive comments.
The SNL alum and his wife Paula released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram on Thursday to share the news of their loss.
It read: ‘Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.’
‘Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things – music, art, film making, comedy – and pursued all of them passionately.’
The couple continued add that Dex ‘most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.’
The spouses, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary earlier this year, are also parents to son Thomas, 30.
The statement concluded: ‘To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.’

Amid news of his passing, Carvey took to Twitter with a pair of images of Dex. He captioned one of the shots: ‘Dex and me working together. What a joy.’
Dex died Wednesday evening at his home in Los Angeles. His girlfriend called emergency services around 10 p.m., police told TMZ on Thursday.
Dex ‘was locked in a bathroom,’ law enforcement told the outlet, and ‘was unresponsive upon discovery.’ It was reported that paramedics had attempted to revive Dex, who was subsequently ‘pronounced dead on the scene.’
An autopsy has been performed, but the results of toxicology tests have not been revealed.
