Jennifer Lopez makes sly dig about Ben Affleck marriage on opening night of her Las Vegas residency

Jennifer Lopez poked fun at her brief marriage to Ben Affleck at her triumphant opening night performance of her new Up All Night residency in Las Vegas.

Although the 56-year-old singer and actress didn’t mention the 53-year-old actor and filmmaker — whom she reunited with for the holidays — by name, she alluded to their tumultuous marriage.

During a brief moment of downtime between songs, Lopez, who was still breathing heavily from the last number, took a moment to thank her loyal fans who had been in the audience nearly a decade earlier for Jennifer Lopez: All I Have, her first Vegas residency, which ran from January 2016 through September 2018.

‘It went by in a blink, didn’t it, for those of you who were there on opening night ten years ago?’ Lopez said as she snapped her fingers and fans cheered, according to a fan-shot video from her opening night concert on Tuesday, December 30.

‘And, you know, at that time I’d only been married twice,’ she joked, alluding to her subsequent marriage to Affleck in 2022.

After a burst of uproarious laughter from the audience, J.Lo corrected herself.

‘That’s not true, it was only once,’ she said, before adding, ‘It felt like twice.’

Then Lopez burst into a smile and clarified, ‘I’m just kidding!

‘It’s over, and I just — boom — we’re fine,’ she said while making a sweeping kick, which was soundtracked with a bass drum and cymbal hit from her drummer. ‘It’s all good.’

Lopez said the ‘good news’ was that she was ‘learning’ and ‘growing’ in the wake of her heartbreaks.

‘And we’re in our happy era now!’ she shouted triumphantly with an ear-to-ear grin, which elicited more cheers and clapping from the audience. 

The Daily Mail has reached out to Affleck and Lopez’s representatives for comment. 

Lopez’s joking marriage talk actually undercounted how many times she has been married, as Affleck was her fourth husband.

Lopez was first briefly married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, and after her relationship to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs dissolved, she married her backup dancer Cris Judd in 2001, though they divorced in 2003.

However, in 2019, Lopez claimed that she doesn’t ‘count’ her first two marriage because they were so short.

Her longest marriage was her decade-long union with Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014, during which she welcomed her twins, Max and Emme, 17. 

Following her breakup with Alex Rodriguez in early 2021, Affleck began a secretive correspondence with her, and the two began dating in April of that year.

The two had previously dated from 2002 to early 2004. 

Affleck and Lopez were first engaged in November 2002 and planned to wed in September 2003, but they ended up postponing the ceremony, allegedly due to the intense attention their relationship had generated. 

They ended their engagement and split in January 2004.

After getting back together for the second time, Lopez and Affleck tied the knot with a small wedding in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a larger ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia estate in August of that year. 

But the relationship again soured, and the film stars were soon rarely seen together.

Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and the marriage was dissolved in January 2025. 

Despite their second split, Lopez and Affleck have remained friends and have publicly supported each other at the premieres of film projects that they began while they were still married, including a remake of Kiss Of The Spider Woman that Lopez starred in and Affleck produced. 

Earlier in December, the exes reunited for a trip to the Brentwood Country Mart, where they were joined by Affleck’s 13-year-old son, Samuel.

‘They met up and went shopping together. Jen and Ben seemed fine. The focus was mostly on Sam,’ a source told People.

The source said Samuel appeared to be talkative as she picked out presents with his father and former stepmother.

They also described Lopez as being attentive while apparently purchasing gifts for Affleck’s other children: Violet, 19, and Fin, 16.

Affleck and Lopez both arrived and departed separately.

During her residency opening night, Lopez hit back at critics who blasted her racy outfits.

The singer looked nothing short of sensational in a number of daring dazzling costumes as she took to the stage at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

During her jam-packed set, Jennifer hit back at those who have told her to dress her age and said they are jealous of her incredible body. 

The On The Floor hitmaker said: ‘But it is funny, I do laugh at some of the things people say sometimes and one of the things is, when she takes pictures she smiles with her mouth open, why does she do that’

Laughing she continued: ‘Why is she always dressed that way, why doesn’t she dress her age, I’m like huh, if you had this body you would be naked too!’

Jennifer flaunted her jaw-dropping figure in a daring pink lace corset bodysuit which she paired with fishnet tights and lace up boots. 

The singer later slipped into a racy green dazzling cut-out bodysuit as she was carried on stage and danced with her shirtless backing dancer. 

The Shotgun Wedding actress has multiple costume changes including a bold black lace sheer catsuit which boasted wings and a huge collar. 

Jennifer showcased her amazing figure in a bodysuit tuxedo before finally changing into an extreme plunging purple sequin gown, matching long gloves and a fur wrap. 

This is the second residency the hitmaker has done after she closed her 2018, 120-show $100-million-grossing All I Have residency at Planet Hollywood. 

After seven years, she announced plans for the new Up All Night Live while hosting the American Music Awards in May 2025. 

On December 30, after months of rehearsal, Jennifer put on an incredible show for the sold-out audience of more than 4,000 fans.  

Making a major entrance, Jennifer kicked off the 120-minute pop, R&B and Latin music and dance odyssey with a spectacular Broadway-themed opener. 

The opening songs included ‘Let Me Entertain You’ from the musical Gypsy; 1999’s ‘Waiting for Tonight’, collabed with West Side Story’s Mambo and an ultra-jazzy ‘Jenny From the Block,’ and finishing off with 2007’s ‘Do It Well.’ 

Her set-list set the tone for a night where Jennifer didn’t just perform her greatest hits but created a living timeline of ‘JLO the artist’ chronicled through music. 

She also performed hits Play, On the Floor, Don’t Rain on My Parade a cover of Barbra Streisand and concluded with Let’s Get Loud. 

It comes after the Hollywood star opted for a bit of comfort over the holiday season.

Jennifer – who recently enjoyed a surprise reunion with ex-husband Ben Affleck – slipped into matching cozy pajamas with her loved ones for Christmas.

She shared a gallery of images to social media including a rare snap with her sister Lynda, 54.

The multihyphenate and the rest of her family donned red and white striped pajamas for the occasion.

Jennifer shared a few photos of herself posing while sitting in front of the Christmas tree.

There was also a selfie taken by Lynda featuring many of their loved ones – including Jennifer’s 17-year-old Emme Maribel – sitting close to each other while wearing the same outfits as they smiled for the camera. 

The star captioned the holiday gallery to her 246million followers: ‘Twas the night… [red ribbon, sparkle, and Christmas tree emojis].’

Elsewhere over Christmas, Jennifer was mocked online after eagle-eyed fans spotted what appeared to be an editing mishap on a festive snap that she posted on X.

Last week, JLo took to the social media platform to share a mirror selfie of herself on the holiday, as she wore a sparkling red dress that showed off her cleavage.

The singer wore her hair in an updo and left two strands framing her face, as she smiled into her orange iPhone, which she was holding in her hands.

‘Merry Christmas one and all!’ the Jenny From the Block songstress wrote in the caption.

However, many fans were quick to notice that her iPhone looked a bit funky in the snap, as it appeared to be curved near the bottom of her hand.

Because of this, some accused her of editing the photo or using a special filter, though she has not publicly confirmed or denied altering the photo.

‘No hate but your iPhone is crooked which means you used some filter that you don’t really need. Aging is cool when you don’t care who thinks aging is uncool. Merry Christmas,’ one X user wrote.

Another seconded: ‘I love you, girl. But you’ve got to double check for unintended distortion in any photo you edit before posting.’

‘Why is your iPhone doing Bend It Like Beckham?’ someone else joked.

One user typed: ‘Damn had no idea iPhone 17 also curves,’ as they attached a zoomed-in picture of the phone.

‘Why her phone look like that,’ another wondered.

A different X user shared: ‘The filters couldn’t straighten the phone.’
