Jessie J shares emotional tribute as she marks the seventh anniversary of the death of her bodyguard Dave

Jessie J has shared an emotional tribute as she marked the seventh anniversary of the death of her bodyguard Dave on Instagram on Monday.

The singer, 37,  shared a heartfelt video montage of her and Dave from larking about backstage at a gig to taking flights around the world together.

Jessie said she would give anything to see her ‘big bro’ again and that she has told her two-year-old son Sky ‘about their travels’.

In the one clip, Jessie can be seen pretending to sing into a microphone as Uptown Funk played in the background, before she pulled Dave towards her as they both laughed.

In another video, taken from around 2013 as Jessie shaved her head for charity, the singer bought Dave on stage as she sang happy birthday to him in front of the crowd.

She penned: ‘I hate how final death is. I would give anything to post a more recent or new video of us. But instead I will watch these on repeat until we meet again big bro.

‘You know what it is. I miss you so much. I talk about you to Sky and tell him about our travels. He says “Uncle Dave lives in the clouds and he loves you so much”

‘If you hear me talking to you today, come say hi. 7 years.’

In the first post she made shortly after Dave’s passing in 2018, Jessie reminisced on their close friendship and described him as being her ‘family’.

She penned: ‘The love you had for your children. Was everything. We would laugh till we cried nearly everyday.

‘We created Penelope and the blue Shetland pony together. We talked about our dreams. We talked about what our biggest fears were. You weren’t just my security, we ARE family. 4 years. Me and you.

‘Remember when you got me the blue Shetland pony cake for the end of The Voice Aus. When we went to see Fifty Shades in Aus and giggled the whole way through.

‘When you would text me when I was filming The Voice on the breaks to make me laugh. The late night walks we would take together to get some air. Who would shout ‘banana’ quickest.’

The Wild star told how Dave came to visit her when she was previously in hospital and regularly checked in on her as she was recovering.

She wrote: ‘When you came to see me when I was in hospital to cheer me up and I was out of it on anesthetic and we again just laughed. You were so worried about me. You looked after me.

‘Working out by the side of the bus everyday before the tour. You would push me and tell me I could do better.

‘When you would do anything so I could see my fans waiting. You would always sort it out so it was safe for them and me.

‘When I was terrified on that flight from Dubai to London because of the turbulence and you held my hand for 8 hours. I will never forget that.

‘When we would go shopping and try on silly hats and glasses. When you would carry me to stage because my shoes wouldn’t make it through the mud.

‘The way we laughed. I keep going back to that. We had so much fun Dave. Your love for working out. The way you would eat your meals and I would always wish I could be so disciplined. I am now. You inspired me.

‘Your love for your dogs. Your love for tattoos. Your love for travelling. Your gentleness. Your voice.

‘The way you stuck by me when everyone else left. It was me and you in Aus. You were my rock.’

It appears as though her friend died suddenly as the singer noted they had arranged to see each other in what ended up being the week after his passing.

She wrote: ‘I wrote this because I want everyone to remember the man you were. You were a gentle giant with a heart so big everyone felt it.

‘I love you so much. We were supposed to meet for hot chocolate next week.

‘I miss you. I will see you on the other side one day. Rest easy Dave / give your Dad a hug from me.’

It comes after Jessie said there’s a chance her cancer could come back as she made a heartwrenching admission about what she said following her diagnosis.

The Price Tag singer revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

Now, Jessie has shared that while she is ‘super lucky’ her cancer was caught early, there is a chance it could come back.

Jessie went on to share that her mother was the first person she called after receiving her diagnosis, and revealed the heartbreaking thing she told her.

‘I remember calling my mum first and I said “Well I can’t die because I have Skye”,’ Jessie told ABC News.

Discussing her cancer battle, Jessie said: ‘I’ve been really lucky, super lucky, to find it so early.

‘It wasn’t invasive, thank god. I know there’s a chance it could come back but until then we’re living life.’

The mother-of-one compared her cancer surgery to an episode of Black Mirror.

The pop star opened up about going under the knife admitting she hates being ‘put under’ with a general anaesthetic because it feels like she’s in an episode of the hit Netflix sci-fi show.
